In November 2019, we contracted for a celebration dinner in November 2020. We paid a deposit of $2000 to secure the venue. The Pandemic happened. We requested a refund in May 2020, when it was clear that the Pandemic would not be over by November 2020. Martin’s refused, noting they would hold our deposit in escrow for use after the Pandemic abated. We were disappointed but decided to wait. We were not comfortable scheduling this event until March 2023. When I reached out to Martin’s, I was told that the deposit had been forfeit. I showed them correspondence, reminding them of their promise to escrow the monies for our future use. I then began talking about the event with a Martin’s rep. She sent me the Proposal (attached). Some weeks later, she advised that an additional deposit would be required. Please note that the (original) $2000 deposit is showing on the proposal. No additional deposit requirement is noted. We are not paying them another dime. The demand for an additional $2000 is outrageous and violates the terms of our agreement.

I hired this company to give a complete professional service of Beauty and Elegance for My Daughters College Graduation Celebration, and did not receive it! Very disappointed well as dissatisfied with the upper management down to the employees that was assigned to My event. The contract was breached even before the celebration started. From the Event Manager displaying a nonchalant and nasty disposition, to the color scheme chose for the event being dismissed and the establishment using what they wanted to the unclean utensils being placed at tables that we're missing color of choice dinner napkins, to having to request plates at the buffet table to constantly be available for the guest to eat, to My DJ that I hired being out of commission for over a period of time due to electrical issues the establishment was having at the time down to the President himself (Wayne *******) insulting Me with a racist comment during Me addressing My issues and concerns telling Me that "I was throwing a temper tantrum because I was not getting My way like You all always do"! Unacceptable and so disrespectful ALL in one. A company that say's they care about their customers and want them to have the best experience ever, should Me (a paying customer otherwise). The whole entire experience was embarrassing to Me, and disappointing. I "MEMORABLE" night that was supposed to be Great, turned into a night that Me & My Family just want to forget! Worst experience ever. Would have been better off going to ******* *********

We understand how important this event was for you and your family, and it is clear from your review that you felt we did not meet your expectations. Upon learning of your dissatisfaction, we invited you to meet with our Company President so that you could discuss your event. During your meeting with Wayne *******, in addition to discussing the event, the security footage was also presented for you to review. One of the key items presented during the in-person meeting was footage showing how many actual guests were present as there was a large discrepancy between the guest count you declared and the number of guests that can be counted on the footage. As you may recall you asked the President to stop counting at 34 and refused to continue the conversation about the actual guest count. Furthermore, some of the issues you were most vocal about stem from your inaccurately reporting the number of expected guests to Martin’s. Our contracts explicitly state in the terms and conditions that you are required to inform us of your final guest count 2 weeks prior to your event. This is to allow us time to adequately prepare (schedule staff and reserve the correct number of linens). Your confirmed guest count that you communicated to your Martin’s planner was 75 people and that is what we based everything on for your event. 1. “the color scheme being dismissed.” As of the close of business on 12/30/22, the final count submitted to your Martin’s event planner was still only 75 people however the actual guest count verified by our security camera footage on your event date of 12/31/22 was 91 attendees. We set your guest tables with black and light pink tablecloths and napkins alternating as specified in your event details. We ordered 90 napkins --in the colors of your choice --which is more than enough to properly set an event for 75 people with our standard 5% overset for non-reserved seating. The manager did accidentally overset the room with 10 place settings instead of 8 place settings at each of the 10 tables. This calculation error did cause us to use white napkins on 1 table only. Although we initially made a mistake, ultimately, we would have still needed to use the house choice of linens for one table because of the large number of undeclared guests showing up at the beginning of the event. Furthermore, since the room was already overset, we were able to immediately seat your 16 additional undeclared guests rather than them waiting while we rolled out 2 additional tables and set them. 2. We never guarantee a specific color for our skirting used on supplemental tables only the topping cloths and swagging which were dressed with your color scheme. 3. The last-minute unannounced 16 extra guests did cause us to have to restock the buffet with plates. There was a very small window of time while we restocked the buffet with more plates. 4. The DJ plugged all of their equipment into one circuit. The overload on the circuit blew a fuse. After resetting the breaker, Martin’s staff assisted the DJ with plugging items into 2 separate circuits so that the fuse would not blow again. This was not, “due to electrical issues the establishment was having at the time” it was due to the DJ trying to plug too many items into one circuit and being unaware of how much power their equipment required. If the issue was with our building or on our side, the problem would have persisted throughout the evening. The switchover took no more than 10 minutes and there were no additional problems with the power. 5. Concerning the cleanliness of the utensils. We take pride in providing excellent customer service and maintaining a high standard of hygiene at all our events. We not only clean all silverware thoroughly, in our dish machines, but we follow up by also cleaning it again before placing it in our storeroom. We did see one guest ask for new silverware and admit that we missed one place setting in our setup. Lastly concerning the inflammatory character assassinations asserted in your review, “Event Manager displaying a nonchalant and nasty disposition,” “the President himself (Wayne *******) insulting Me with a racist comment.” Mr. ******* vehemently denies making these comments. He only asked that you kindly stop yelling at him during the meeting so that there could be a productive conversation. He truly wanted to resolve the matter with you during the meeting. It is clear that you feel that your event did not go as you had planned, and we hoped that we can have a constructive conversation rather than resorting to character assassination and accusations to resolve this matter moving forward. To conclude, Martin’s Caterers is family owned and operated business that has been in existence for 59 years and counting. Martin’s as an organization and the President of the Company, does not believe in discrimination or prejudice based on race and strives to treat all individuals with respect and dignity regardless of their background. The staff employed at Martin’s caters at all levels are consummate professionals and we would not employ any individual that did not show each and every customer with dignity and respect.

Let Me make this very clear to ALL, I will not use the BBB platform to enter into a go back in forth place to keep addressing a company that clearly shows no attachment to accountability at all! What I stated before, I stand on we'll as by it! This lengthy comment with untruth attached to it does not intimidate Me not one bit! The truth is the truth! And what I said is exactly what happened! And that's why Mr Wayne ******* has gotten several people to call Me in reference to this situation to try to get Me to back off and let this go away. From getting different position holders from the actual company to reach out to Me down to the request for the removal of this comment. And I will absolutely not do so! My comment will remain the same until Martin’s West do right by My disappointing well as unprofessional encounter with some of the staff and the president himself (Wayne *******)! You say you have footage which you claim I asked to stop after the count of 34... but, you failed to mention that I made the request because of Mr ******* starting and stopping and starting the footage over multiply times, you say I was yelling and screaming, you failed to mention that I proved during our meeting during the meeting I requested with Mediation and Ledigation Department, by asking one of Martins West staff members that actual attended the meeting if I yelled or disrespected any of you in any way by doing so and his answer was “No”, you say it was 19 guess over the original count, but, you fail to mention that you changed the over count multiple times... 13 to 15 to 19... Untruth!!! you say it was only 1 person on footage that asked for clean utensils, but, your General Manager addressed that particular part directly himself and know that he brought more clean utensils for more than just one person, you say the DJ was the cause of the electrical mishap, but, in the meeting you took responsibility, but, came right behind that and said; “this type of thing happens”, you say that you ordered 90 linen cloths, but, for some reason whole table was missing pink linen napkins,,, you say ALL your staff is professional, but, the Event Overseer that was over My event for that evening was terminated by the General Manager because of her professionalism towards Me that evening. Well footage you have, so do I as well! I took pictures and some recordings of My event on that evening clearly shows proof of what I stated! And I will be moving forward with getting justice for this horrible experience from the beginning to even now! It will be no secret where I will be headed next. The news stations and court is on My agenda. And I will not entertain anymore of these comments any further!
