Last month I received two bills from a collection company from two accounts under my name, I don't live in Texas, never been to Texas! To my surprise, I just received notification of three other accounts under my name (my last name was misspelled in all of them). After the notification of the first two accounts I contacted the collection company as well as Discount Power and was advised to file a police report and an Identity Theft Report which I did, the police report takes over a week to be able to obtain a copy so on February 29th I send them an email as per Discount Power instructions, as I mentioned today I got information that 3 more accounts are in collection under my name. I think it is unacceptable that a big company like this one won't have the level of security to identify that they are opening accounts under the same name and one after the other one goes under collection!!! 5 ACCOUNTS!!! They ruined my credit and I have wasted many valuable hours just trying to resolve an issue that could have been avoided just installing or acquiring better security alerts on the website and in their customer service. Of course, today when contacting them I told them I was going to hire a lawyer if they didn't resolve the situation, talked to 3 different people and they finally told me that my case was processing... after 30 minutes, at the most, of finishing the call, I got someone calling to tell me that it was all resolved and that they will inform the collection company and the credit bureaus that it was a fraudulent case..... Frustration is a complete underestimation. They need to put their things together!!!!!Discount Power Response

This company has continued to send me bills for $500-$700 and I have told them that I live alone, I work 8-10 hrs a day, my thermostat is always on 65 with no other changes. It is so cold in my house that most of the time I walk around with a sweater on or wrapped in a blanket. I sleep with 2 blankets on my bed. So I think that the amount billed is erroneous and I disagree with the amount. They are ripping people off.Discount Power Response

People pay attention to the recent reviews! Their billing is scheduled whenever the meter is read. If you get paid once a month, this isn’t the company for you. Not impressed, leaving as soon as I can. Expect their cookie cutter response to be for me to contact them. No thank you.Discount Power Response

Took over my account a few months ago and have been lying to me ever since. I was told my plan would put my average bill at around $275 every month. It is consistently over $400 every month and they don’t know how to answer the phone or return an email to provide an explanation or fix the issue. Again, my account was taken over, I did not choose to do business with this company. Who would choose to do business with a company that is not BBB accredited and has 1.2 out of 5 stars on the BBB customer review rating?Discount Power Response

I received a huge bill of $524.62 this month 10/09/2023 and I am the only person living in my single wide mobile home. I use a small lamp for lighting and keep my tv on but other than that I just don’t see me using that much. Usage was $332 and the DELIVERY CHARGES are $198 something? So I’m paying y’all an extra light bill to deliver my electricity? ABSOLUTELY NOT ANYMORE! I cannot stand this company and they want $350 to get out of this garbage contract at 13cents/kwh . I've never had my electricity turned off. The last couple of years have been a struggle medically but my electric bill has ALWAYS been paid. Not on time because my Social Security check doesn't get to my bank except on the 2nd Wednesday of the month but it is always paid. There's always a late fee but it's paid. I try to always get ahead by paying $100 more each month. EXAMPLE: my charges were $344 but I only owed $141 because I always pay more. I got a disconnection notice for the 9th of October but I get my check on the 11th. I called them and asked for a 2 day grace period. but was turned down them saying I had 4 disconnection notices in a year and my power would be disconnected on the 10th and nothing I could do except to pay my bill. I don't get it. I've had 6 surgeries in a 1 year period and had my last one Wednesday of last week and they wouldn't give an old man a 2 day grace period. My point is that you never know what is going to happen and if you are going to be in a financial bind. I'll get through this, no problem but these people will turn you power off, no questions asked. When I get back to work I will get rid of this company for their lack of compassion an them adding such stress on to my life. Nobody wants to worry about their power being turned off. i just want people to be aware of who they are dealing with. OH, I've been with them for about 6 years. They are not BBB accredited. BUYER BEWEAR Please check them out before you commit. These are evil policies and people have issues from time to time. If they do this to me, others will have even more horror stories. My account was sold to this crooked company in Aug without my knowledge. My bill in August from the other company was almost $500. So I assumed the bill I received for almost $400 at the end of September was for end of Aug through September. I called to find out a breakdown because the only bill I received was a past due bill and it had not even been a full month. The bill has no breakdown of usage nor did the website, I was told they can see a breakdown of my usage on their end. I was told the bill was for Aug and I explained there is no way possible I paid the previous company more than $500 in Aug, so your telling me my power was more than $900 in one month? The rep could not explain anything nor give any useful information other than I can cancel. I literally hung up and called *** to switch back immediately! I got tricked into this scam after receiving a email from my city doing a complimentary survey to see if I could save energy but ended up paying way more in the end. These are brokers that will just sell your account and charge you a huge bill in the end as a final bill do not use them stick with a legit company!Review from Christopher M

NEVER AGAIN. Will happily pay my $295 cancellation fee to never have to deal with this company ever again. No compromise or help tying to find a better plan for their customers and always offer new customers much better plans to bring them on board whilst forgetting their loyal customers.Discount Power Response

Someone tell me why we received a bill for $620 for a 1500 sq foot home from these people? No new appliances, we lowered our AC, because LAST month's bill was $430 and we freaked out. There's no way this is accurate- need to know who to report this to.Review from Jerry S

To borrow from the previous commenter. Horrible. Horrible.Horrible. I have never in my life dealt with a company as uncompromising and shady as Discount Power. They bought my power account from ******* Energy and with absolutely ZERO notification. Here's the kicker. I did not choose to work with Discount Power and even though I did not sign a contract I am now locked into a two year contract that is almost double what I was paying when they first transferred me over. I was told that "someone" signed a contract online and I cannot change without paying a 295 cancellation fee. I called and spoke to more than one representative including a supervisor and they told me there was nothing they could do. Really? They charge these rates in the disadvantaged areas and are more than willing to offer an outrageously high interest rate payment plan to take greater advantage of those that are paying bills that are now almost double what they were a year before because of this "mysteriously" signed contract. Never felt more abused by a provider and the bill is so high this month I cannot even afford to pay the cancellation fee so I know the next bill will be even higher with this non stop 105 plus degree heat.
