            *** Gainesville Regional Utilities has advised BBB that they have no involvement in or relationship with GRU Financial. ***

            Gainesville Regional Utilities has advised the BBB that they been the victim of a fraudulent check scam. GRU Financial has mailed letters to consumers in various regions of the USA that tell the consumer they have won a large sum of money. The letter contains a check that appears to be from Gainesville Regional Utilities. Consumers are told this is an advance on their winnings and is to be used to pay taxes. The consumer is instructed to deposit the check into their personal bank account and then send a money gram to an address in Canada to pay the supposed “taxes”. Gainesville Regional Utilities has advised BBB that they have no involvement in or relationship with GRU Financial. The checks issued by GRU Financial against the account of Gainesville Regional Utilities are counterfeit and will be returned unpaid to the depositor. The consumer will lose the funds used to pay for the money gram.

              I was contacted at 6:23pm for the first time regarding a returned payment. This payment was and is currently marked as received on February 16, 2024 on my account portal. I checked the portal daily in order to ensure this was accurate. They sent no notification nor any indication that the payment was pending or there were issues. There is no issue on my end, it is exclusively on theirs as this has happened in the past with this company in which I was charged another $30 fee for no account found when I in fact gave the correct account information and verified with my bank. The previous time this occurred I was spoken to as in an incredibly rude and unprofessional manner and they refused to refund the fee due to their error. This company has repeatedly overcharged individuals including myself which have been corrected by a meter reading. They are scammers and providing confirmation that payment was received and then notification that it wasn't after business hours when they are completely unreachable for over 48 hours is absolutely unacceptable and awful business. I look forward to hearing from you regarding and investigation and resolution to these unjust practices.

              I stop my account with ********************** last Dec 20, 2023. I got my last reading last January 21,2024. They said they sent the check for my security deposit refund last January 26,2024. But until now I have received that cheque yet. I called them couple of times, now I requested to cancel that check and il pick up the cheque in their office, so they dont have any time frame also when will be the cheque available. First, they did not even give me the option before if how I want my refund be. And for a one month of waiting?!! come on! and they cannot even give me a timeframe of every processing that they have. A big company without a standard procedures for processing a refund?!!! The customer service told me its a case to case basis?!!! No! a big company like you should be operating with a policies in every transaction or processing you have for your customer!
