Let me start by saying that my interactions with people at Navis were pleasant and positive, and that my items were picked up in a timely fashion, well-packed, and arrived on the scheduled date unharmed. So, I am basically a very happy customer! However, there was some information in between that was missing / could have been handled better. My items were being picked up in the ** and shipped to ******. I asked a number of times before paying my invoice what the process would look like getting items over the border. The answers I got from Navis were *extremely* limited basically, no information other than Once at the [border] someone will contact you if they have any questions or need any additional information. I paid their invoice, at which point they contracted with a third-party carrier service. That carrier clearly had more cross-border experience and immediately asked Navis if I had a customs broker. Navis did set me up with another third party broker, who again seemed to know what was going on. They required a very detailed list of every item in the boxes, each with my estimated value assigned to it. I had attached a list (without values) on each box that Navis picked up, but they didnt seem to have access to / any record of those specific lists, so I had to reconstruct them from my memories / photos of the boxes. Once I had given the customs broker the information and paid their separate fee, everything proceeded smoothly they filed all the paperwork and paid the duties, and the items were shipped with tracking and delivered promptly to my address.I wish that I had known more about the process in advance, that Navis had been better informed, and that I had thought to keep my own record of the exact contents of each box rather than assuming that Navis would take my inventory and handle the customs forms.
