First, I've been a builder and doing design for 40 years and have an extensive background in building, architecture and engineering. So no stranger to any of this. Purchased Trex decking 2nd generation material 2016, built sub framing structure per Trex requirements. Deck planks started to CUP in the long direction, not deflect, there if a difference. Reported to Trex warranty dept. They declined my claim based on the gap at the end of the boards. Their first claim was on my framing where there were corrected by the pictures I sent of the framing. Again, I'm a builder why would I cheat on my own deck!!! Their review at best was based on pictures and no engineering data to support their position. I asked for it, never sent. Their claims manager has no experience in building or engineering and ret direction some other unqualified person. Simply put, this warrantee department is clueless and when its like that professionals like me wonder more about the integrity of this company's and service. The fact is this material has no reason to CUP in 6 '' dimension direction ( across the board) other than the stress on the lower groove lip that the concealed fastener places, therefore allowing the upper edge of the groove to CUP approx. 1/8'' allowing water to pond and therefore freeze creating a safety hazard. They claim that there fractions of an inch tolerances need to be met, really? If you're off by 1/16'' all boards CUP.. HAHA good one. Their denied claim is completely unsupported to any response they will respond to this complaint. Furthermore, this product even when flat does in fact allow water to freeze on it creating a hazard conditions and therefore should be removed from any used where freezing temps exist. As a professional stay away from this decking material and company if you are concern that their claims department is flawed as I witness. This material is not proficient enough to be used in cold weather and really questionable on it performance.
