Better Business Bureau® (BBB ®) serving Upstate South Carolina recently conducted a business investigation regarding Colt Buildings LLC, a custom home manufacturing company based in Greenwood, SC. Colt Buildings LLC claims to honor “honesty, integrity, and value,” but consumers report losing a large deposit when the company does not provide service or communication.

The company currently has three unresolved complaints on file with BBB.org. According to reports to BBB, the sum of money currently unrefunded is over $12,000. One consumer reports receiving an inaccurate quote. Once paid, the company will not return his deposit nor perform work for the prior amount quoted. Another consumer reports the company losing her contract and ignoring attempts at contact, resulting in the loss of a large deposit.

Consumers report the business creating multiple social media profiles once a previous profile is flooded with poor reviews. Other consumers report the owner passing off other company photos as his property.

To BBB’s knowledge, the business has not issued refunds nor provided custom home manufacturing services. BBB of the Upstate has contacted Colt Buildings LLC, but the owner has stated that he does not care to respond to complaints nor communicate with the BBB.

BBB recommends the following tips before submitting a deposit online:

● Google search the business for reviews.
● Go to BBB.org, type in the business name, and review their BBB Business Review.
● Looks at Google reviews on their Google My Business ad.
● Should the business have social media, review what consumers say about the business on the various platforms.
● Make sure to pay with a credit card.
● Check out a business on BBB.org that adhere to BBB Accreditation Standards and BBB Standards for Trust.
