Empowering individuals and communities to live healthier lives
Ash Lubega, President of Care Remedy Inc. in Woburn, Massachusetts, is no stranger to the healthcare world. After moving to the United States from Uganda, where he had worked for an NGO ensuring rural communities had access to healthcare and medication, he saw a need to help care workers find employment and people in need of non-urgent care to find transportation. In 2019 Care Remedy Inc. was launched.
“It all started,” Lubega explained, “with my roommates, both healthcare providers, who were having trouble finding employment. I just wanted to help.”
With Boston being a global leader in the healthcare industry and home to 25 hospitals and 20 community health centers, Lubega saw an opening in the industry. Today, Care Remedy Inc. offers two different services: in-home healthcare placement and non-emergency transportation.
Care Remedy Inc. provides extensive home care solutions designed to enhance the quality of life for individuals of all ages. As each client is unique, so too is their care plan. Care Remedy Inc. offers a wide range of professional services that can range from companion care, hygiene, hospital to home care, and can be just a few hours a week to around the clock care.
“With a strong commitment to compassion, professionalism, and personalized care,” Lubega says, “Our goal is to create a safe and comfortable environment where clients can maintain their independence while receiving the support they need.”
Lubega said 90% of his business comes from the non-emergency medical transportation services. Care Remedy provides short and long term transportation to medical appointments, nursing homes, pharmacy pick ups, and even same-day home delivery for groceries. They currently work with private insurance and MassHealth, but also offer free rides to those who don’t have insurance.
The goal is to improve a person's independence, health and wellbeing,” Lubega explained. “The journey is as important as the destination.”
It hasn’t always been an easy road. As a small business owner, Lubega said that funding is a challenge. Through the different community resources, including Mill Cities Community Investments and the Harvard Business School Impact Investment Fund which seeks to expand access to affordable, flexible capital for entrepreneurs seeking to build businesses and make a difference in their communities, he is confident Care Remedy Inc. will continue empowering individuals and communities to live healthier lives. His goal for the future is to expand the home healthcare side of his business.
