The Better Business Bureau Canton Region & Greater West Virginia is offering a free community Shred & E-cycle Event on Saturday, April 20th from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. in the Canton Central Catholic High School’s parking lot located at 4824 Tuscarawas St. W., Canton, Ohio.
The event promotes identity theft awareness and fraud protection by providing free on-site document shredding and e-cycling services. Identity theft scams reported to BBB last year show that $936,068,210.84 was lost, with another $119,290,418.00 attempted. Identity theft may take a long time to detect, allowing scammers to inflict substantial damage on assets, credit, and reputation before the victim is able to notice any issues.
Proactively shredding personal documents and properly disposing of electronics are some of the best ways to protect against fraud and identity theft. Businesses and individuals can participate in this community event by bringing documents with personal and financial information to shred, and outdated, unused electronics to properly e-cycle.
Shred-it will be providing the document shredding services and eCycle Solutions of Ohio will be providing the e-cycling services. Accepted electronics include: Batteries (no alkaline), Cable, CDs, Cell Phones, Circuit Boards, Computers, Fluorescent Light Bulbs*, Game Consoles, Ink & Toner Cartridges, IT Equipment, Keyboards/Mice, Laptops, Modems, Computer Monitors**, MP3 Players, Phone Systems, Printers, Routers, Satellite Boxes, Servers, Speakers, Telecom Equipment, Televisions**, UPS Units, and Video Games.
