BBB Southeast Florida & the Caribbean is warning consumers about the business practices of Royce Medical Supply in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Royce Medical Supply claims to be an accredited Medicare supplier of high-quality back and knee braces and that its braces are approved by medical professionals for comforting patients, relieving pain, and recovering quickly.
According to BBB records, consumers have complained that Royce Medical Supply is billing Medicare for unneeded and unordered medical supplies.
In January 2024, a Sebring woman advised BBB that Royce Medical Supply had been charging her Medicare account $1900 monthly for a total of $5700 for intermittent catheters that she did not order.
Recently, a consumer submitted a customer review and shared with BBB that Royce Medical Supplies billed Medicare thousands for catheters and for home visits that were not received and did not take place. “Medicare and Medicaid fraud hurts everyone.” said BBB Southeast Florida CEO Rod Davis.
BBB has also received several Scam Tracker reports in which consumers have made similar allegations about the company’s billing practice. “Even though the victim is the government, the people pay the price through higher costs and more restrictions. It is important that all businesses and consumers report fraud using BBB Scam Tracker and directly the Department of Health and Human Services at 800-447-8477.” added Davis.
As of April 2024, Royce Medical Supply maintains an “F” rating with BBB due to its failure to respond to 8 complaint(s) filed against it.
BBB offers these tips to avoid falling victim to Medicare Scams:
Verify the charges- Regularly review Medicare Summary Notice or an explanation of benefits statements from your health plan to ensure no charges for medical equipment you did not order.
Beware of any offers for free medical products- Be wary of unsolicited calls or communication offering a free medical devices or treatments.
