BBB Wisconsin: Inaugural Scam Survivor Day launches with new Scam Survival Toolkit

By BBB Serving Wisconsin. May 9, 2024.

(BBB Wisconsin)

BBB Wisconsin is marking the very first "National Scam Survivor Day" by launching a new online resource aimed at helping people who scams have impacted. On May 9th, BBB recognizes the brave men and women coming forward to report scams, tell their stories, and help others avoid being impacted. The special date will be recognized on the second Thursday in May each year.

"We know the stigma around scam victimization reduces reporting, which increases risk," said Jim Temmer, CEO and president of BBB Wisconsin. "BBB is offering a new Scam Survival Toolkit on our website to help people who are affected by a scam, helping them gain peace of mind and work toward their recovery."

To mark "Scam Survivor Day," BBB Wisconsin and Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson issued a proclamation highlighting BBB's new Scam Survival Toolkit.

"BBB Serving Wisconsin keeps the interests of the public at the forefront, and has been doing so for eighty-five years. Tools that assist in preventing scams and recovering from scams are valuable and needed," Mayor Cavalier Johnson said. "My heart goes out to those affected by scams, and I offer my appreciation to the Better Business Bureau and to everyone who steps forward to stop criminal scams."

In addition, BBB Wisconsin is excited to announce that Congressman Bryan Steil introduced a Resolution on Monday, May 6, to designate May 9, 2024. Every May 9, moving forward, as "National Scam Survivor Day," recognizes Better Business Bureau and its efforts, and specifically, all those that report scams and share their experiences to help others.

What is the BBB Scam Survival Toolkit?

The Scam Survival Toolkit connects people with the information they need to restore their financial, mental, and emotional well-being. The toolkit provides tailored guidance and resources based on a person's situation, including steps to stop any further financial impact and guidance for restoring their long-term financial and emotional well-being. Users will also be connected to the BBB Scam Prevention Guide, which will give them the knowledge they need to spot future scam attempts. Both online tools are available on BBB Scam Tracker, BBB's online scam prevention and reporting tool.
