Digging the foundation

Homeowners encounter different maintenance and renovation needs for their properties, including septic systems. David Towle & Sons Excavating in Cumberland, RI specializes in septic system design and installation. Additionally, the company provides excavation for new home sites and trenches for electric, water and sewer lines.

Owner David Towle shared that the business has a rich history. His father started the company in the late 1970s, and today it serves all of Rhode Island and parts of Massachusetts. Septic system design and installation are among Towle’s most popular services.

Interestingly, many people tend to think about their septic systems only when there's an issue, like when the toilets won't flush or during the sale of a property. However, Towle emphasized the importance of a proactive approach to maintaining septic systems. Questions homeowners should ask potential installers include details on price, availability, type of septic system being installed, required maintenance and the septic system location.

Towle said that customer satisfaction is his top priority in his business. "We like to be efficient and professional. I want people to be happy with our services. I want to try to please as many people as I can by doing good work."

When asked how customers find his business, Towle mentioned that it's mostly word of mouth, and real estate agents often recommend him to their clients. He noted that reviews on BBB.org have also helped him gain business. "A lot of people go on the Better Business Bureau's website to check on me and confirm my business. My wife keeps telling me to ask for reviews, but I guess you would call me 'humble' or something," Towle said with a chuckle.
