BBB Cleveland names new president and CEO

Better Business Bureau® (BBB®Serving Greater Cleveland is pleased to announce the appointment of Pamela (Pam) Anson as its new President & Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective mid-February. Anson, who currently serves as the Director of Brand Outreach at BBB Cleveland, will succeed Sue McConnell who is retiring after 44 years of dedicated service.

Throughout McConnell’s tenure, she has played a pivotal role in shaping BBB standards and policies, serving on numerous international BBB committees and governance bodies while also conducting training workshops for BBB staff nationwide. In recognition of her contributions, she received the prestigious BBB Meritorious Service Award in 2009.

As CEO, she led the BBB through significant growth, increasing membership by 30%, securing the purchase of a new building, and launching initiatives to engage young entrepreneurs, including the BBB Spark Award and BBB Junior Board.

Anson is a seasoned executive with a proven track record in marketing, community outreach, and nonprofit leadership, she has been instrumental in advancing the organization’s mission, driving strategic growth, and strengthening community engagement. 

“Pam has been a driving force behind many of our impactful initiatives, and we are confident that she will continue to lead BBB Cleveland with the same dedication, vision, and commitment to excellence,” said Andy Fiffick, Chair of BBB Cleveland’s Board of Directors and President & CEO of Rad Air Complete Car Care and Tire Centers. “Her ability to foster innovation and build strong community relationships makes her an ideal leader to guide our organization into the future.”

Anson graduated from John Carroll University and has over a decade of experience in nonprofit leadership and brand development. Her career has been marked by a passion for mission-driven work, financial stewardship, and cultivating inclusive, high-performing teams. In addition to her strategic marketing expertise, she has led BBB Cleveland’s Educational Foundation, spearheading consumer education programs that have positively impacted thousands across the region.

“I am honored and excited to step into the role of CEO at BBB Cleveland,” said Anson. “This organization has a long-standing legacy of trust and integrity in our community. I look forward to building upon that foundation to drive innovation, expand our impact, and continue supporting businesses and consumers with the resources they need to thrive.”

Sue McConnell, who has served as CEO since 2015, expressed confidence in Anson’s leadership, stating, “Pam’s dedication, vision, and deep understanding of our mission make her the perfect choice to lead BBB Cleveland. I have no doubt that under her leadership, the organization will continue to grow and evolve.”
