Capturing memories
For Meri Hannon, founder of Meri Lee Photography in Norwell, Massachusetts, creating memories that last a lifetime has always been the heart of her business.
Hannon’s love for photography started young. “Since I was a little kid, I’ve always had a camera in my hand,” she shared. Influenced by her parents, who documented life through photos and videos, she developed a passion for being behind the lens. But it wasn’t until she had her first child that the idea of turning her passion into a business took root.
“It evolved over a 10-year span. In 2013, when my oldest was one, I found myself photographing him all the time and thought I would love to document memories for other people's families. But I was scared. So, I pushed it to the side and just took photos for friends and family, including my own.”
After the birth of her fourth child in 2022, Hannon decided to make the leap. “I told myself I just need to start now. If I kept waiting for the perfect moment, it was never going to happen.” Taking the plunge, she established her LLC and committed to her dream, knowing there would be no turning back.
Hannon officially launched Meri Lee Photography and began to focus on learning the craft and business side of photography. She invested in workshops, mentorships and hands-on experience—an approach that quickly paid off. Today, her studio caters to families looking to capture those precious milestones, from maternity shoots to newborn photography to family portraits and even a few branding projects.
Her business has come a long way since its early days. “One of the biggest changes is my confidence,” Hannon explained. “When you start a new business, you’re constantly questioning, ‘Is this going to take off? Will people want to work with me?’ But getting good feedback and reviews reassures me that I’m doing something meaningful. I know my clients leave with beautiful memories and are happy with the experience.”
Living and working on Massachusetts’ South Shore, Hannon is deeply connected to her community and roots. She loves raising her family in her childhood home. Her kids even attend the same schools she once did. South Shore’s parks, beaches, and easy access to Boston and Cape Cod provide an ideal backdrop for Hannon’s outdoor family shoots. "It's such a great area with so many beautiful spots for clients," she said.
Hannon’s approach to photography centers on personalization and comfort. Whether it’s a studio session for maternity portraits or a cozy in-home newborn shoot, she aims to create a relaxed environment for her clients. “My favorite part of the process is delivering the gallery and seeing the feedback,” she said. “Knowing I’ve created something they’ll hang on their walls and pass down for generations—that’s what brings me joy.”
While she primarily focuses on family photography, Hannon also shoots senior portraits and headshots. However, her heart lies in capturing the intimate and candid moments of families as they grow and change.
