On a friends recommendation, I hired ****** ****** to put an extension on my existing deck. I did not get a signed contract from him, he quoted me $11,000.00 So he pre made the stairs at his house and brought them over. I went and cleaned them, and realized the material was faulty or used. He came to look at the problem and refused to take responsibility for using damaged material. He also left sticker in between the boards so you could see them. So following getting the material that I paid for and had delivered. Trex decking, clips etc. I had an amazing company build a deck for me in B.C. so I know what they are suppose to look like. He started nailing the the decking on the deck and left 3/4 of an inch in-between the boards. You should see just the head of the nail between the boards. I had paid him $5000.00 for materials and labour to start. He has done the extension on the deck and as well fixed the back fence. He owes me $3,100.00. I sent him a letter requesting this portion of money back. I gave him a week to respond. no answer from him. My next step is to take him to small claims court. *********

The day I was let go at about 5:00 I spoke to her and she was happy and fine , I had prepared materials for the next days work and at 9:30 PM she text me that I was fired for incompetence without explanation I returned a text asking what she was talking about but refused to reply I sent another text telling her I would be at her home by 8:30 A M but no response I went to the house she wouldn’t answer the door bell or when I knocked at either entrance I test her once arrived and no response I text her again to ask for 5 min of her time and she still didn’t respond When I went to pick up the tools I had left there she had removed a garbage that was protecting a 12 inch miter saw that now was completely soaked from the rain , she also threw other hand tools around the yard and a small step ladder I used to access the deck was thrown against the fence , all these tools were neatly put away against the house before I left that evening She has changed her design of the steps 4 times , the decking twice , facia 3 times all which required new materials returns of the old and added more expense to the project She complained about pencil marks from a layout I had done on the steps that I erased with a pencil eraser but she felt I as a contractor should have been washing the deck steps with soap and water before delivering them , keep in mind the deck is not even close to completion when deficiencies are usually dealt with , she also complained about a 3mm chip on the bottom of decking veneer on one of the steps that could not be seen unless you used a mirror maybe , I obliged again and returned the material that she felt was subpar She also told the decking she chose was exactly the same as what she had in BC and all decking was the same and that it was exactly the same she had used in BC . I explained that there was a number of manufacturers and different grades of decking she refused to believe that and phoned her contractor in BC and discovered it was a Trex product and she had picked by her own free will from samples a decking made by Armadillo and was also a different color , after seeing the pics she received from the contractor of her steps in BC she was adamant that that’s now what she wanted but she didn’t want any screws or nails in the decking and wanted to use deck clips , I explained to her that was not possible because the material for steps doesn’t use deck clips once again I explained they had to attached somehow to stair framework, she got upset sent me the photos of her deck steps that clearly showed screws were used to construct these steps , once again no apologies or admission she was wrong again Re: the facia it was agreed that White aluminum facia was the choice to which I matched white aluminum stringers for the steps , she decided that would look awful after originally agreeing because the lower part of the deck was to be enclosed in white lattice , “no no that’s not what she wanted so I measured out what facia and hardware she required and passed it on , once she found out that it would be an additional 700.00 for material plus hardware and installation she changed her mind again and once more back to the original aluminum facia She complained to you about 3/4 gaps in decking that I only heard about second hand , that decking first of all didn’t have 3/4 gaps and secondly those deck boards were placed temporarily on the day I was fired because they had to be lined up to a trapdoor that the city required and came out roughly three feet from the house, all these decking pieces had to line up with the house but also still make the trapdoor operable until that was done , “which would of been the following morning “ but she assumed that was the final placement of the deck boards on left side of the house and yet not a single deck board was screwed down on the right side of the deck “ keep in mind that I had to layout approximately 6 to 8 boards dep in order to make all these things come together She had asked to repair about 60 or 70 ft of fence , I picked up the material and moved it to a location close to the fence and went to pick up the necessary tools needed to that work, I returned to discover she move all the lumber from working area to an area closer to her house , when I asked her why she said it was wrecking her lawn which at that time where dandelions about a foot tall , but at the same time she had her lawn furniture out on the lawn for over two weeks and apparently it had no effect on the lawn but my lumber did Just as a point I told her I don’t carry decking from curb side delivery to the back yard I either find a supplier that does or hire the deliver people to do that , she didn’t like Lowe’s for some reason that do deliver to the backyard for an additional cost but chose Home Depot that does not, the delivery dates were changed a couple times and I was unavailable at the time of the delivery so she asked how and where I would like it in the backyard, I explained to her I build the deck from the house out and to place it on the front of the deck so I could have access to house area to start the decking , it was placed 90 degrees to the directions I gave so I could not start the deck until I removed and relocated it , I did not say a word to her about this I just worked away unnecessarily until I could clear enough room to start the deck I have offered her twice to continue with the deck but know responses just threats off going to court and still hasn’t told me why I was fired other then incompetency , I’ve basically given up trying to appease her and told her if she wants to go to court I would happily meet her there I have bent backwards trying to keep her happy but to no avail I’ve had Airdrie Renovations registered since 1998 and this is the first time I’ve been fired and still don’t know why I have all texts to collaborate what I have just written and will gladly pass them on if required, as far as the finances I told her like I tell everyone I deal with if I make a mistake I’m responsible and if you make mistakes or changes you’re responsible, I spent more time making changes and adjustments , doing returns etc then building the deck that is her expense I am not on retainer We agreed to do the work discussed and she has deviated from that on daily basis and that is on her Thank you for time ****** ****** Airdrie Renovations I text
