I hired Can Electric in Dec 2021 to change out an electrical panel in my home. I had an electrical inspection for an unrelated air conditioning install a week ago and a number of egregious practices and deficiencies came to light. The inspector searched through his records and found out that a "hot swap" was performed meaning that the power to the house was not shut down as required to do the work. This was admitted by *** ******, the owner of the business. This technique not only significantly endangered his crew but it endangered my home, my possessions, and my family. The work was done without a permit. At the very least, the contractor was required to make sure that a permit was in place before commencing the work. This requirement comes from discussions with the inspector, the Safety Code Council of Alberta, as well as electricians in good standing. This was not done. I had a discussion with the owner about this and he was adamant that he followed the rules but would not put that in writing. Instead, he accused me of trying to scam "free work" which is definitely not the case. Lastly, he did not do the work to a standard that meets current electrical code which means that I am now in a position of having to hire a reputable contractor to do work that was required by law to have been done at the time of the original work at my financial cost. The work initially cost me approximately $1600 over two invoices. I am willing to negotiate a partial refund for this work whereby I am reimbursed for the labour portion of his invoices since I now have to have that labour redone, with credit to him for the cost of the panel and the breakers.Business response

Considering Mr *****,
His concerns has been accommodate as following
1- The person has communicated with Mr *****, that he need a permit for the job but he has refused get a permit and has insisted the his house is only 5 years old and meets the code and he only need the panel change … then our employee who is not with us any more has booked the job ….
2- Thank after a year and half mr ***** has contacted us asking for permit after revieing his estimate and discussing with the agent who has dealt with him, there is no sign of any permit and he has refused to do the work with permit ….
Please see attached his invoice without permit,
If the work has to be done with permit it will be motioned in our estimate
Going further we have told all our employers that they are forbidden to do any such jobs with out permit.
