My wife and I hired this company on October 1 to move our furniture. Upon arrival the Movers told us it would be at most 2.5 to empty the house. It ended up taking 5 hours. Movers then dropped our marble table and cracked the table top. The entire table top is chipped and cracked. They told me to file a claim by sending an email with pictures and a brief explanation. Its been three weeks and the company has gone dark on me. I have made several attempts to get someone to call me back but no one has. In addition, they left damage to our previous home. There were grease stains on the carpet and holes in the walls. I've called there office several times and have just been told someone will call me back but that has yet to happen. I keep on being told by ***** the receptionist that **** the owner of the company will call me back. I was told several different lies about why no one has contacted me, from hospitalization to vacations. The actual movers were the most rudest individuals ever. They were heard screaming profanities from outside the truck and insulting my family. The amount of stress this company has put my family through has been exhausting. For them to completely ignore the complaint and not even offer an apology is just unacceptable. Please help me as I need a resolution.

      Business response

      05/12/2022

I am responding to the Complaint below with regards to the move our
      company did for this client.
First, I want to confirm that there was some damage to the dining
tabletop. There was a small to medium sized crack about 10 inches long
and a couple medium sized chips in it as well. The entire table top was
NOT full of chips and cracks as stated in this complaint!!

On move day, there was no issues with
regards to any dents or holes in the walls anywhere. These issues
came up a week or so after the move was done. I discussed this issue
with the crew and they both said that there was no damaged walls to
either the house at the origin nor at the destination. They both said that
the only thing that came in contact with the walls while they were moving
your goods in or out of either of the homes, was the mattresses. To date, I
have never seen a mattress dent nor put a hole in any walls. Both these
crew members are longer term employees and very highly praised by many
many of the clients they have done moves for in the past. So I believe them!

As for the stains in the carpet. Upon arrival, the crew came into your home
and removed their footwear and toured your home with your Wife. Your Wife
came in out of the garage and led the crew to the second floor to view what
all was to be moved up there. While going up the stairs ****** noticed dirty
stains on the carpet that appeared to be coming from your Wife's shoes.
He mentioned to her that they would be putting down floor runners to protect
your flooring (as we do for all our moves). She told them not to worry about
the flooring ... however the crew put flooring runners (protection) on the floors
anyways as it is our company policy. So, both crew members were adamant
that they were not responsible for the wall damage nor the stains on the carpet.

I find it interesting that you told me in our first communication about the claim
that you paid $2000 for the table. When ****** took you and showed you the
table and subsequent damage, you told him that you had paid $900 for the
table a year or two ago. How and why did the table take such an incredible
jump in value?? I discussed this issue with our professional furniture repair
man who came to your home and repaired the table. He said that, in his
professional opinion, the entire set (including the chairs) was likely valued at
around $1000.00 when it was new.

With regards to the ""unacceptable employee behaviour"" you talked about.
I find it offensive when you chose to slander two very honest, well reviewed
and hard working men who worked their butts off for you all day, just for sake
of adding issues to fortify your claim. The character of both these crew
members is nowhere near what you claim they have done or said. They are
both praised wholeheartedly by many many past clients. I have NEVER had
any complaints like your accusations with regards to either of these employees.
I also find it interesting that when I asked to set a date that both these employees
will join me and sit and meet with you face to face to discuss these accusations
you have levelled against them. You then, all of a sudden, had change of heart and
say the only issue you want to discuss is about the damages you are claiming.
So, you refused to participate in that meeting. Why?

As for not addressing your concerns in a timely matter, I personally take
ownership for that. I was out of province, not on a vacation, but spending a
significant amount of time in hospitals and seniors home with a family member
extremely close to me. This has went on and on for a couple of months now
... making several trips out of province. It has consumed an enormous amount
of my time. I did take a little time when I was out there trying to find out which
client you were. Your name did not show up anywhere in our client database.
And I do apologize as I did brush you off thinking you were another of the many
many ******** that reach out to us on almost a daily basis. I did not know,
at that time, that your move was booked in another person's name. I did not
know who you were. This did cause us some of the delay in dealing with your
      issues. I apologize for that!!

Once we got that all sorted out, I, right away contacted Din, our professional
furniture repair man. I instructed him to go to your home and repair any
damages he can repair and then report back to me if there is anything that he
was unable to repair. He told me that nothing was mentioned to him about
repairing any wall damage or he would have repaired that too while he was
      there.

So, the table was repaired by a professional furniture repair man. He said your
wife was very very happy with how good of a job he did repairing the tabletop.

I have waived the $250 deductible that applies to all damage claims
(that you would be normally responsible for) as a gesture of good will because
of the delay that we had with getting this damaged tabletop repaired. I do want to
add that when we booked the repair man to come to your home to do the repairs,
he did say up front that it could take you several days to get to your job as he was
backlogged with jobs at that time. But he would get there as soon as he was able
to. This information was relayed to you, but you obviously were not satisfied with
that. I did not want to try finding an alternate repair man because this fellow works
magic. He is the best person for the job and that's who I felt was the best person
      for your tabletop repair.

The table top has been repaired to your satisfaction and I don't see any further
legitimate issues that we need to resolve with regards to this move.

Alberta Top Notch Movers ***** ** **** ** *** ********* ** *** *** *** *** **** Move to Red Deer January 10, 2022 In a number of conversations  I informed the customer service rep that we had a 3 bedroom townhouse that included a dining room and indicated additional items such as a treadmill, electric fire place and a kiln.  All boxes were moved to the garage and just had to be put on the truck. We took beds apart and removed the mirror from the dresser.  I was quoted $1,400 for our move to Red Deer.  Moving day took 8.5 hours.  I was told that as a result the cost of our move could be double. I was told that the reason was because of the number of boxes.  When I commented on how long it took the lead of the crew said it didn't matter to them as they get paid regardless.   To add insult to injury they were not able to move a $2,500 leather couch and it was sawed in half and taken to the dump. The move in took 4 hours. The same amount of furniture and boxes.  The crew were very hard working and efficient.  The move ended up costing $3,500. 2.5 times the original quote. I submitted a complaint to the company but have not received any response.

      Hello ******:
This is **** with Alberta Top Notch Movers. I am co-owner and general manager for the company.
I am sorry you have not had a response before now. I was unaware of your complaint til the people from *** contacted me to let me know that I had a complaint filed that I had not responded to yet.
I checked our phone call log as well as our emails and we have no record of you reaching out to us regarding any complaint.
      So I am responding now.
So the first thing I want to address is that we did NOT send you a quote. We did not guarantee any price for the job. The only time we guarantee the price for a job is if I had came to your home and did an onsite evaluation. Then I would have given you a quote, with a guaranteed price. But this was not the case.
We gave you an estimate of your move cost. And we give an estimate based on the information you had given us. We were not told that there was a renovation in the stairwell that made the passageway smaller when we did the estimate. We give estimates as best we can with the information we were given.
In the introductory email that your estimate was sent the following was in the cover letter of that email:
On Wed, Oct 27, 2021, 6:39 PM Top Notch Movers ****************************** wrote:
      Good Afternoon ******

Please keep in mind this is an estimate only, based on the information
you gave me over the phone. The actual end cost of your move will
be based on the actual amount of time the job ends up taking.
However, if the cargo list you provided and the access at both locations are as you described, the estimate should be pretty close to actual. Sometimes the
jobs end up costing less than the estimate and sometimes it can be a bit
      more than the estimate.

It is VERY important that you review all the information within this estimate.
Make sure all the information is 100% accurate. If you see any information
within the document that is not accurate, please call us at ************ and
we will amend the estimate and resend it to you. This refers to the cargo list
as well as the addresses and access information.

All wooden furniture, glass, mirrors and other wall hangings will be wrapped
with movers' pads for protection during the move.

Plus, at the bottom of the estimate, this disclaimer is written out clearly and is very easy to see:
This estimate is based on the information you provide, and on the assumption that your house or business is packed and ready to move upon arrival, unless packing services are noted above. Estimates are given to inform you of approximate costs and allow us to schedule movers appropriately. Actual charges reflect the time spent on your move, plus boxes, packing supplies, travel time, fuel, and any other extra charges as noted on your estimate. Billing begins when the movers arrive to your location and ends when they finish the move, plus the travel time which is the time to get to and from your locations. The estimate above reflects the minimum valuation of .60 per item per pound included. Additional valuation options are available upon request.

So, the two things that immediately changed once the crew got on site.
The crew immediately called me and said this was bigger job and will require significant pad wrapping and that there was a lot of big and heavy and pristine condition items. They recommended a third man for the crew to make the job go smoother. I told the crew to “OK” it with you, to which he told me you were ok with that. So, the third man for the job would have added some cost to the job. And as it was it took the three of them.
They told me that the padding and wrapping of the furniture took a fair bit of time. The other thing was the stairwell. And as per your Husband, after all the furniture was placed upstairs when you moved in, you did a minor renovation to that stairwell.
As you know, the crew spent a fair bit of time getting all the bigger furniture down that stairwell. And they tried and tried and tried to get the couch down that stairwell. And after a significant amount of time your Husband then said “wait a minute … we did do that small renovation at the bottom of this stairwell after the furniture was placed upstairs”!! Then the “”well if you got it up there it must have to fit down these stairs”” train of thought went out the window! Your Husband tried to see if the new owners of your home wanted the couch and they didn’t. So, your Husband went and got a saw and HE cut the couch in half so it could be moved out of the home. Your complaint makes it sound like the crew decided and then went and did this. It was NOT them that did this it was your Husband. So I cannot see how you can hold us responsible for the couch issue. Believe me, the crew felt really sick about it that the were not able to get that couch out of the townhouse for you.

You mentioned that the crew the second day was so much better than the crew on the first day but two of the crew were there the second day and there was only one person that was different.
In closing, almost every move … the offload takes between 1/2 and 2/3 as long to offload as apposed to loading time. In your vase it was about half because there were no access issues at your new home.
The crew leader on the first day did report back to me that he notified you a few times over the day that the job was going to go significantly over the estimated amount because of what I mentioned above … and he said you said you understood why and said “it is what it is”.

      Thank You for your time.

I am rejecting this response because:

      My response
      1. When I contacted Top Notch Movers I asked if someone would come out and give me a quote and I was told that it was not possible.
      2. I called after receiving and reviewing the quote and added items that were not included.
      3. I was told that the reason it would take longer was because of the number of boxes. We had moved all boxes to the garage and they just needed to be put on the truck the same number of boxes were unloaded.
      4. The things that were wrapped were also unwrapped when unloaded.
      5. The issue with the stairwell was only in relation to the sectional couch and had no other implication.
      6.  The third person added for the pick up worked as a supervisor and had to be asked to help the other two.  The third person on the drop off actually worked with the other two to complete the unload in appropriate time.

I hired this company to move my belongings to a new apartment. During the move, the driver backed into the front of the building, and did some damage to the exterior of the building. They ackowledge the damage and confirmed they would pay for it. This was September 16/21...they since have been sent a statement of account for the damages, from the building owner. Since this was done, they have gone silent and not returned any phone calls or messages. I have now been sent the same statement of account, as the landlord says I am fully responsible for the damages $3872.55 To this point I have lost $2300 for the moving costs paid to Top Notch Mover, My damage deposit of $1850. , and now am on the hook for the balance to the building owner.

The owner **** assured me he would take care of this matter amongst many excuses yet nothing has been resolved to date and has been no contact since jun 11. My property was dragged shoved and dropped and took extra time to move due to not utilizing tools ie a dolly to move boxes resulting in higher moving cost. Initial contact from **** offered $400 or send a repair person in which i refused as my deep freezer alone is $300 min to replace. my property was not broken or damaged and i certainly didnt expect to pay for damage. In Response to complaint filed by ******** ****.

First, I would like to address the estimate/cost issue.

You were NOT given a quote of $575.00 for your move.

You were given an estimate of $575 based on the

information you gave us with regards to cargo and

access at both the origin as well as the destination

address. In your estimate that you were sent, and

made your choice to book us based upon, clearly

states that the estimate is not a fixed price!

See below. This is CLEARLY written right on the bottom of the Estimate

you were sent before you booked your move. In addition, it was also stated

in the cover letter that you were sent when the estimate was emailed to you.

Estimate : This estimate is based on the information you provide, and on the assumption that your house or business is packed and ready to move upon arrival, unless packing services are noted above. Estimates are given to inform you of approximate costs and allow us to schedule movers appropriately. Actual charges reflect the time spent on your move, plus boxes, packing supplies, travel time, fuel, and any other extra charges as noted on your estimate. I spoke with the driver on the job and he had the following to say:

      - There was far more cargo that you had given us in the list you provided.

      - There was no deep freezer on the cargo list. But the one that they did

        move WAS NOT DROPPED!!

      - Upon their arrival this is what you said to both of the crew members.

"Guys, all of my stuff is old and beat up except for that TV stand (I believe it was)

over there. I just got it and is new so please take good care of it. Which they did.

They pad wrapped in your house at the origin and unwrapped it inside your new

home. When they unwrapped it, they inspected it and it was in exact same condition

as it was when they picked it up, and fully functional.

      - as for damage to walls, yes The driver did say they were responsible for two or maybe

three scrapes / dents on the walls and door frame. But there was many many other

pre existing gouges, dents and scrapes all throughout the home.

      - the mattress was slid across the floor by one of the guys but not over gravel or

cement. This, along with the wall and door case damage that our crew was responsible

was what I offered you the monetary compensation for.

      - The guys used their dollies when it was feasible but the way the boxes and such

were packed, a lot of it could not be carefully handled with the dollies, so had to be

        moved by hand.

So, I will still stand by my offer of $400.00 as a cash compensation for the conceived

issues that you have brought forth. I do believe it is a fair offer considering the $250

damage claim deductible that is industry standard as well as what you signed off on

when you signed the move contract at the beginning of the move. This offer waives

      that $250.00 deductible.

Also, don't forget, I did also offer to have my repair man come in and repair any

damages that we were responsible for ... and you declined that offer.

You had also mentioned to me that your landlord refused to return your damage deposit

and you wanted us to compensate you for this. I asked you to provide me documentation

from your landlord to back this claim up and you have never complied.

In closing, I regret that your level of satisfaction is not as I or you would like it to be but

taking into account that in the last 12 months we have conducted over 700 moves and

our Clients' overall satisfaction rate has been second to none.

That same crew that you had, they did another small move after your move was done

that same day. That client messaged me expressing her high level of satisfaction with

the crew and she gave them both a very generous gratuity. So, I am not sure what to

      think of that!

I hope this addresses your issues.

I do not accept the response from this company as they acknowledge they are aware of the damages. I have several witnesses that have also seen what transpired from this company of the handling, dropping and dragging of my stuff.

I was told the one guy was hired and fired in the same day, the owner of the company also admitted the one guy was no longer working there after my move and that was the "quality" of employees out there,  which really  doesnt matter to me as i paid for a service and to look after my items and paid way more then any of the estimates given and I am left with a whole pile of damaged furniture that cant be fixed and is no longer useable.

I also have witnesses who counted the boxes with me. All items to be moved were given to the person that answered the ph when i called in for a quote there was a vibe plate i also explained what it was as it was also heavier that i couldnt do that was not on the list i assumed they included inthe quote as the other places i got quotes from were the same time and costs. I discussed every piece and explained if i needed to as it is not in my best interest to miss something as i wanted as accurate a quote as possible to ensure i could afford to hire a moving company. i usually move my own stuff to ensure there is no damages and to keep costs down. This was the 2nd time in my life i have had to hire a moving company unfortunately due to health issues.

The apt deep freezer was picked up by one person (the one that was fired apparently) and it slid out of his hands when he went out the frt door down the steps and the side hit the steps. And the motor is rattling which means the drop badly damaged it  (********* *****)

I never said my stuff was "beat up" or "old" I said the most important piece was the tv cabinet as that was the most expensive and newest piece, i was advised by the owner that my stuff would not be damaged and i did specifically talk about my tv cabinet and he assured me it would all be taken good care. Regardless of any of this my stuff is well cared for and was in good to excellent condition and working condition. I did not have trash prior to this company moving my things.

Some damage is to be expected when someone else is moving your stuff as they dont have a vested interest in not damaging it as they did not pay for it - however the damages that were done is over the top and uncalled for.

My move was also the last move of the day with them finishing late they told us they were going back to the office for the night.

Office desk top cabinet doors bind - half table is unstable (damage scrapes on back) un noticeable when set up but still damaged. (********* **** *** ****)

Office Gaming chair was carried and kicking the wheels as he was walking spinning the bottom wheels around handling it roughly - chair is wobbly now which affects my back problem . This chair was gotten due to back pain to minimize it and now all i get is back pain from it due to the loss of integrity of the chair. (********* **** *** ****)

Armoire dressers both of them the doors and drawers now bind as they have somehow been warped. (********* **** *** ****)

Mattress - dragged on the ground (cement and gravel) there was one person originally pushing and dragging it slightly outside then a third guy that was there temporary helped move and lift it however the damage was already done, and yes it was also slid across the tile floor in the house. The mattress is ripped and filthy. (********* **** *** ****)

Treadmill - was yanked and jerked around in spite of me telling him how to move it back so it was on its wheels binding on the wall causing damage and extremely rough handled to get it out the door again only one person was moving this and yanking on the walking part of the tread mill bashing it around  and same with the vibe plate where i can no longer  use them because the motors cannot be handled like that in them and i cant risk a fire and have not been able to use them much with all the damage i have been left with also the arms are damaged on the treadmill. These pieces are extremely important for my health issues. (********* **** *** ****)

The corner desk was flipped upside down and dragged across the floor to take the top off - he spun the screws out to fast and buckled the top where the screw holes are so it cant be put back together properly to be stable. The keyboard tray was taped the moving company so it didnt slide out when moving it - the keyboard tray no longer comes out. (********* **** *** ****)

2 tall display cabinets. The white one leans and does not have integrity as it has been twisted somehow and the black one is also the same not quite as bad and the clip in front was broken where the glass doors lean against it its a display cabinet  so that piece also shows through the glass. (********* **** *** ****)

China cabinet - it is older however it was in good condition and never rocked - there is a chunk of wood taken out of the back corner and now this piece is not useable and not fixable. (********* **** *** ****)

TV cabinet -scratched and chipped on the side and the one side was warped the glass door no longer closes on the one side and binds - not sure if they had put heavy items on top of this and caused it to sag or warp or whatever has happened there. There are surface scratches also on top at one point when he was bringing boxes in the house he put it down and slid it across the top of the cabinet as one witness caught him it was already to late- there is also a chip gouge on the front of the fireplace cabinet part.

Lid of one of my storage bins cracked on top from slamming my stuff on the ground when he carried it to the stairs or in the house and or slamming down boxes on top of each other from carelessness. (********* **** *** ****)

I believe i got all of it in here there are more pics available for the condition of the house prior and after . Also the witnesses are also available.

      Thanks

      * ** ** *********** *** ** ********** ********* *** ****** *** **** ***** The representative of this company came out and told us how wonderful they are. Even though two other quotes were a couple thousand dollars less I did my best to make sure that Alberta Top-Notch Movers would do the move for us. They were great in the beginning and then I had to pull teeth to find out when they were going to move us and when they would unload our furniture in Victoria. Extremely bad communication, from what I was told I was hiring their company to do the work. But it turns out that their company only has a couple employees and they hire out the movers from other companies. When they finally got to Victoria to unload our furniture, there was a significant amount of damage. I purchased a brand new barbeque approximately three months before, when they unloaded it, it was severely damaged. I was told by the company owner that if I excepted a $400 payment it would be better than to go through insuranc

*****, I will address the MANY untruths in your complaint. ***** ** *** ** ** *** ** ********* ******* ****** *** **** **** ** ** ***** * ********** ********* I am shocked about your comments about us being a small company with one or two employees. The truth is we have 4 trucks, currently 15 employees. In the last 12 months we have done over 700 moves. So I do not know where you get your information. As for communicating when we would load up and then deliver your belongings, WHEN YOU BOOKED WITH US WE WERE VERY CLEAR THAT WE WOULD LOAD ON JULY O9 AND DELIVER ON JULY 11. I responded to your roughly 200 text messages over the following week asking to load it on July 8th and I was perfectly clear to you that the truck would be in BC on July 8th. Yet you kept hounding me and hounding me asking me when we would load your goods up. And I responded to almost every message you sent me ... over and over and over reiterating that I could not load on July 08 - 2021. But even at that, I drove directly back from BC when I was offloaded and worked a 27 hour day to get the truck back to Edmonton and guess what ... I did come through for you on July 08. And guess what?? You never did even thank me for that.

With regards to damages. The ONLY damages that we seen was that BBQ. And I addressed that by leaving you with $400 cash to purchase a $150 part and have it replaced. I really do fail to understand how you can be unhappy with that *****. You and your Wife were TOTALLY satisfied when I left there. In closing *****, I would like to point out that just because we did your free move for you, it does not constitute that our business nor our insurance is now a personal ATM machine for you.

Hi, unfortunately company he’s being extremely unreasonable myself and My wife. This is truly unfortunate considering all we had to go through. Accusing us of abusing the system is very serious. Our brand new sectional has a cut in one of the seats, and her leather sectional has been scratched up quite bad. The patio furniture which we just got has much damage to it. When he mentioned that they were not our personal ATMs, I was shocked. We would like to settle this reasonably we are not trying to be outrageous by any means. When they left I was definitely not grateful whatsoever, I don’t see how he could say that. I never abused him by sending him hundreds of texts. **** ******* *** ** ********** * ***** **** **** * ****** **  ************* We did not get a free move as he suggested that is very rude of him to say such a thing. I am completely unhappy with the response that we got from the company.
