I went to have an oil change on 2017 GMC **** 5.3 litre engine the morning of March 14th at around 11:30 a.m.The sign on the board had only two prices one for ***** for a regular change and ****** for a synthetic oil change...The man asked what I wanted and I pointed to the ****** oil change because that one is synthetic oil and thats what my engine takes....About 10 minutes later, the change is done and he presents me with a **** of ******. I complained and pointed out the price and he said yeah he was trying to get the boss to change it. I told him I could go to a GMC dealer and get the same oil and filter changed for around ******. He just told me he couldnt do much about it as he is ** ***** *** *** **** ******* ******* ****....I want the difference refunded to me over the price on the wall and the price I was charged.....**** ****** ******Business response

I do acknowledge that the customer is correct on his estimate for the price of a synthetic oil change at a new car dealership. The lube shop industry typically does not cater to the same demographic of customers in that most dealers require an appointment for service and the inconvenience of leaving your vehicle sometimes for hours.Quick lubes are a drive through, no appointment necessary, service industry and serves customers who want or need to be in and out in approximately 10 minutes. None of the large franchise lube shop chains nor myself as an independent owner/operator have ever, to my knowledge, been able to nor claimed to be priced competitively with that industry as they are completely and differently structured services. That being said I can offer that my base oil change package is one dollar cheaper than my major competing quick lube shop in town. Our environmental handling charge is exactly the same at $7.99. However, my price per liter of oil over the standard included is higher per liter than the other quick lube. In addition, being an independent shop I don't have the same buying power and simply cannot compete with companies that have several shops they can use in support of each other.The customer mentioned that he pointed to the sign showing my employee which package he wanted my shop to apply to his vehicle; however, failed to see the sign explaining the breakdown of extra charges that would be added (signage pics included). It states that $7.99 EHC Shop supplies will be added to each oil change. Every oil change package price includes 5 litres of oil ONLY. We fill every vehicle to OEM specifications and will charge accordingly. If you require quote please ask. The reason the pricing is structured this way is because almost every vehicle that comes in takes varying amounts of oil and no shop could account for that with limited real estate for signage. Giving the customer the benefit of doubt and as a sign of good *************** offering, one time only, to refund the difference in cost between my shop and my major competing lube shop the price difference of $20.15.
