I only wish I had read the reviews here before booking. Since reading the reviews on over pricing, speaking with acquaintances, and calling around to other local plumbers, I feel I paid a hefty fee for a 30 minute basic bathroom sink unclogging. No cables required. 423$** * ****** **** **** ***** **** *********. Now I know when I asked for a general quote for basic sink clog, they wouldnt give me one. Once they are here and tell the price its more difficult to say no because they already will be charging their show up fee. Lesson learned. Ive been given general local quotes of 150$ less by others today. I went with the big name and paid big.Mr Rooter Plumbing of the Fraser Valley Response

We were never notified of any problem with this customers service. After receiving the call we were out the next day and removed a lot of hair from the drain to get it flowing again. We do have 30 day warranties on all drain cleaning, so if the problem persists we would be happy to come back out to clear it.Review from R. B.

Worlds most expensive Outdoor Tap . They charged me $510.00 for an outdoor tap that could be purchased for $75.00 and under at a local plumbing supply .Mr Rooter Plumbing of the Fraser Valley Response

We received a call regarding a leaking outdoor faucet. We arrived on site and capped if off at no charge. The following day they called back for us to come out because it was leaking badly. It was a Friday, so we had no availability until Monday. We were told if it got any worse they would have to call someone else. They waited for us to come out on Monday and our service technician went over the job on site. After getting approval he proceeded to do the job. Two days after the work was completed we received a call that other companies charge less. We are not sure which companies he called or what sort of overhead they have to account for. Mr Rooter Plumbing is a Franchise, but family owned. We have to consider all costs when we factor in our prices. (which have skyrocketed with the recent inflation) We account for wages (we pay a fair living wage and want to keep the good ones around!) **** Liability insurance (which protects us and the customer) Fuel, truck maintenance and repairs, equipment, materials, office expenses, advertising, uniforms etc. We realize that we charge more than a "one guy operation" but we stand by our work, provide warranties, use leading industry equipment and will always be available to take your call. It is unfortunate that this customer did not see the value in our service. Had he just declined to have us do the work after he was quoted, we would have been happy to leave.Customer Response

Being charged $510.00 on the invoice for the tap is ******** a ***** Record considering the exact part an outdoor tap on ****** or local plumbing store is approximately $75.00 . I still find it deceiving to quote a job without clarity of labour cost and part costs. The big assumption **** ** ** **** *** that to remove and replace an outdoor tap was labour intensive. Which was not the case and I have no problems with the labour charge . But I do have a reaction to being charged $510.00 for a partMr Rooter Plumbing of the Fraser Valley Response

We want to guarantee our work, so we purchase everything from reputable wholesalers. We are aware ****** can charge less for parts from around the world. We can not compete with that. Again, had this customer declined the estimate we would have been happy to leave at no cost.Review from janice r

We came out on site and provided an up front cost to Ms ******. Once we received the approval, we began work. (there was no obligation for her to approve the cost) The technician could hear her complaining about the cost on the phone with someone. So he felt really uncomfortable doing the work and gave her a discount on the service; plus a senior discount. I wish he had just left her with an estimate, but he wanted to make sure her toilet was in working order. The cost of everything has gone up so much, we have had to raise our rates too. We have to account for fuel, fair living wages, materials, insurance, taxes, WCB etc. While I understand that plumbing emergencies are not everyone's favourite thing to pay for, I am happy that our technician was able to diagnose and repair the issue in a timely matter and provide a warranty on all his work. In her email to us, she did say that the service was great- she just didn't like the price.Review from Natalie d

I am very upset at how much I was charged by Mr Rooter for cleaning out clogged kitchen sink pipes using a snake/auger. I was charged over 500.00 for a job that took less than an hour and I had already cleaned out the pipes under the kitchen sink thoroughly prior to this service being done. The technician quoted / provided me with an estimate of 500.00 explaining that this is a big job and I accepted thinking it would be much less as I had already cleaned out the pipes under the kitchen sink. The technician was done in 50 min after using an auger to go 50 feet. The estimate of 500.00 did not change and I had to pay over 500.00 with taxes!! * ****** ***** ***** ******** ********* *** **** ****** ** ***** ****** *** * *** **** *** ** *** ** ***** ** ** ** ***** I contacted Mr.Rooter office the next day to appeal and they responded that their technicians are more qualified than others and that other technicians would take longer to do the same job. They reimbursed me 50.00 off the total bill. Unfortunately this is still 2-3 times more what other plumbers would charge. ***** *** ** ***** ******** ** ********* *** ******Mr Rooter Plumbing of the Fraser Valley Response

We charge by the job, not by the hour. The service technician that was on site is a certified journeyman with years of experience. For that reason he can diagnose, clean and repair faster than some of our junior technicians. We cleared the drain line with one of our power auger. Which is a very expensive piece of equipment. As such our prices are meant to cover the cost of our equipment and maintenance and repair. We are not a company where the guy answers his phone in his van. We are licensed, insurred, have ***, office staff/ managers, trucks, fuel and fair living pay for our technicians. We have to factor all these costs in when we price our work. We gave her the price up front, to which she agreed. Had she said "no" we would have just left. Our technician said it was actually a difficult job and he had to install a new clean out too. She called after she called other plumbing companies to get a discount. We charged her the same price we would have charged any one for this job, but in an effort to close the complaint we offered her a $50 refund. This is not something we would have done normally, but she accepted the refund and we closed the case. Much later she emailed us again asking for another discount. We already closed this case so there is no more discounts. With the rising costs of fuel, insurance, materials etc our prices have to keep going up too. We have to balance what is fair to our customer, technicians and the company itself. We do not know what other companies she called after the work was done, but I do know a lot of them quote a lot less over the phone and will add drive time and surprise costs after the work is done. We believe in being up front so there is no surprise costs.Review from Susan E

Buyer Beware! I called Mr. Rooter as we have been customers for years, and received good service. This time they sent *** ******* *** **** to sell us a new toilet for our customer's use and install it. Rob quoted $750 which we said was extremely high as we had installed 2 new toilets in our ********* house in 2021 for a cost of $199 each plus installation. He said he had a brand new one in the truck, and could install it right away so we said to go ahead. When we discussed the price again, he said he was giving us a 10% discount as we are valued customers. The toilet he installed was so small I thought it belonged in a pre-school. I told him it was too small and wouldn't be at all acceptable as many of our customers are elderly and wouldn't be able to get up if they sat. He argued that we had agreed to the install and wouldn't do anything about it. He finally said for an additional $600 plus tax, he would install a full size toilet, and take this one back. It was too much and we tried to get him to offer something to compensate as we had just paid $787.50 the day before. He agreed if we bought the toilet he would sacrifice and only charge $300 to install it. We called in another plumber who bought and installed a new proper, handicap toilet for $510.00. It took him about 45 minutes to remove the small one and replace it. Hardly worth $300. I will never bother calling Mr Rooter again, and really, I recommend you don't either.Mr Rooter Plumbing of the Fraser Valley Response

It is unfortunate that this customer has decided to call someone else. Unfortunately there was a lot of miscommunication between her and the technician. When we did try to make it right she cancelled the service request. We wish her the best with the new company of her choice.Review from S. K.

Their services are disgusting. They would charge their clients 4-5 times more then average around the Lower Mainland. I have asked a second opinion on the job price that they have done for me, and the answer was that their charge is ridiculous. * ******* ** *** ** **** ** ******* ********** ********** **** ** **** **** ** *** *********Mr Rooter Plumbing of the Fraser Valley Response

Thank you for your feedback. Our service technician provided you with a no obligation quote on site. You approved for us to do the work before we started. After the work was done you googled the part and told our office it was $100 at other companies for a plumber to come out. Although I do not know what sort of company they were referring to, so I could not compare our costs with them, I can assure you we do not rip off our customers. We pay our technicians a fair living wage, ***, Liability insurance, fuel, repairs and maintenance on equipment and warranty our work. We price each job to make sure we are still making a modest profit in the end. Had you decided to call around before you approved the quote, we would have been happy to leave no problem.Review from H. D.

We are sorry to hear you were unhappy with your service. As per our phone conversation over the charge; you did not answer when I asked how much you were expecting to pay and hung up on me. Had we discussed it further we would have been able to come to a reasonable solution at that time.Customer Response

To be clear I did not hang up on you, and your tone when you asked how much do you think you should pay of the job was extremely condensending. The technician at the site quoted us 300 dollar to change the pipe after which we said no thankyou to which he went "oh let me try again", goes back in tightens the pipe and says it should be good to go. This is not about how much i should be paying this is about your technician not working with honesty! Please focus on improving your customer service rather than defending extremely poor and dishonest service
