The owner of AMEX, Sean provided a quote for a ******** roof replacement in February 2022. I accepted the quote and signed the contract on Feb 18, 2022. I was made to pay a 50% deposit and told that my roof would be started in April or May. The start date was continuously pushed back from May to July and then to August. In September I was told the job could start but that I needed to pay more money. When I said no, Sean offered a refund which I accepted. I started contacting other roofers. Sean found out I was contacting other roofers and refused to give the agreed upon refund. He said he was coming to do the roof as he already had materials. On November 1st he sent 2 workers to start the roof. My roof is an enormous job and the job site was a mess. One of the workers stepped on a nail and for a couple of weeks only one man worked on the roof. As could be expected one man could not safety perform the job and several leaks occurred. The asphalt that they were applying was stored outside in the snow and freezing temperature and was not bonded to the surface as there was no sunlight. Sean only came to work site on a couple of dates, once to request more money and another time to respond to the leaking. After 4 weeks Sean subcontracted another company to help apply the asphalt. After the asphalt was applied he began trying to extort more money. He quoted 3 different prices, and when I asked for an itemized cost list and invoice he called me horrible names. He then edited our signed contract on his computer to say I agreed to a much higher price for asphalt roof and said he would lien my house if I didn’t pay $25000 more than I had already paid. I have had to retain a lawyer. A roofer who inspected the roof told me so much debris was left that it would clog my gutters and informed me the asphalt is buckling already as it isn’t bonded to the roof. The inspector warned the shingles could easily blow away and will need to be replaced in spring.
