On Thursday Feb.3.2022 Mayfair Plumbing came to my home to investigate and repair a water leakage I was having. I was aware it was coming from the upstairs shower out the basement wall behind the basement toilet. As I was alone I was not able to pinpoint exactly where the water was coming out however I could pinpoint what was causing the water to flood in my basement. Mayfair was called, they attended and we found the main outlet to the city line was plugged. Mayfair then said they were going out to their truck to get "the snake" to unplug the line. In actuality the Technician had to return to his location and collect "the snake" as Mayfair does not provide each Technician with a "snake" to unclog drains. I called Mayfair once the Technician left as we were in the middle of a snow storm and I was not paying the Tech to drive back to their office location to pick up something all Plumbers should be carrying in their work vans. I was told no I would not have to pay for the Technicians driving time to pick up "the snake" and they only had one that all the Technicians use. I was not told at that time there would be a rental charge for "the snake". When I received my invoice it had a "snake rental" of $85.00 on it. Plumbers should be carrying snakes with them which I researched and confirmed. In addition a snake of this nature, motorized and on wheels, that can reach up to 100', my clog was at 60', cost under $600. ** ***** **** **** **** ** ********* ** *** *** **** ******** *** ******* *** *** ***** ***** ****  **** ****** ** ************ ***** ***** ********* ** **** **** ****** **** ********* **** ** *** ******* **** ******* ** **** ****** ***  What Plumber doesn't carry a snake in it's Tech van? I would like a refund of this $85 + tax. I am extremely tired of being ****** by Contractors.

Hello ******* After reviewing the invoice and comments bellow I find everything to look exactly as it should for the job that was completed. Equipment charges like snake charges are a very standard thing in the industry. The overall purchase price (which is significantly higher than the $600 stated by the client) is only a small fraction of the operating costs of the equipment. Each snake has to be gone through on a regular basis for maintenance and repairs. Sankes are one of the most common pieces of equipment to break. They have to be pulled out, cleaned, sanitised and lubricated after almost every use to ensure safety for the operators and reduce breakdowns. We also have 3 different size / types of snakes in our company. All of these have separate applications and uses. If we were to have each of our service vans equipped with snakes for all scenarios we would have to have 30 snakes. Our least expensive snake costs around $2500 and our large snakes with all the different attachments and extensions are around $10,000. The only thing I can see about the invoice is that she is claiming she wasn’t told about the charge before hand which is something we typically inform clients about. I was not involved with scheduling or the work done on this call so I can not confirm that we did tell her that. Because of this I will refund her the $85 this one time but in the future if a snake is needed on a call this will be charged out. If a client doesn’t want to pay for the equipment charge they are more than welcome to rent one themselves and try and clear the drain without our help.

      Thanks
