My vehicle, a **** **** **** extended cab ***** in colour was left on the street in the city of Trail British Columbia. I *** ************ and so was not made aware that it was left on the street and towed away by Scrap King ordered by the city of Trail, BC. By the time I found out it was three and a half months later and the charges exceeded the vehicle’s value. Upon my release I contacted Scrap King and made a deal with the clerk that I would send someone to collect my personal belongings ( because I can’t) and then I would release the vehicle once they had my belongings. She agreed but later said no because her boss wouldn’t do it. I was travelling and as a result had my immediate personal belongings including clothes, my second set of ******* ****, etc in the vehicle. I had asked to speak to the manager but he refused to call. I received an email and was told by the same clerk that they are going to crush my vehicle with my belongings in it. I don’t know why they would do that and they have offered no other explanation. It has been almost two months now. This company is registered with the BBB as accredited. I cannot believe that they can or would even do so. To what end or purpose. It’s a clean truck for it’s year so there lots of salvageable parts. I am here with only the clothes on my back. I think their conduct in this matter is deplorable and certainly below BBB Accreditation standards. Can you please help me with this. Thank you.

      Business response

      04/11/2021

      Good morning, ****,
As was previously explained to you, at the time of your conversation with our counter employee, she was unaware that this vehicle had a bill against it. When she advised us that some one was coming to collect the contents, we informed her that until the storage and towing fees were paid the vehicle and its contents were not releasable. We have these policies in place for a reason. She relayed this to you of when you called, and she also apologized to you.  In my reply email to your original complaint, I explained that the bill had to be paid before personals can be removed, as the value of the vehicle does not equal the value of the towing and storage charges.

You must be aware, a business does not survive with out earning an income. A vehicle that is not paid for and removed in a timely manner does not earn revenue. We are paying wages to our drivers to pick up and tow the vehicle, as well as insurance, fuel and all other cost associated to this service. These pieces of equipment are extremely costly. To recoup some loses we crush unclaimed vehicle, but again we only receive a fraction of the total cost incurred to process the vehicle. The costs to our company for all fluids removal, tire removal and disposal of the fluids to a special environmental company is expensive. So, as you can see just signing over your vehicle as payment does not come close to covering the expenses.

      We had s
tated to you previously, we would like for you to come and collect your belonging, but like any other good and service the bill must be paid. I understand that you have been ** **** *** unable to take care of this until recently, we don’t normally hold abandoned vehicles longer then 30day, at this point the vehicle as been held it longer. I can only offer a reduced storage duration to 60days, but the towing portion must be paid in full.  Once this is paid in full and proof of registration showing that you are the registered owner and signed transfer paper, you can collect your personals.
