Letter for hopeful resolution to the issue
of the pool liner that was installed at my home:
** **** ** *** *****
** ********* ** ******* ** ** ***** **** ** *** **** ***** ***** ** *** **** *********
I was having issues with my pool paint,
spoke to the folks at ********* ********* ** ********* and they recommended
“Mitch the Pool Guy”, stating that he did pool liner installation.
In November of 2015 I contacted Mitch
********* the owner of said company. We set a date for him to drive to my home
in Northern Manitoba, I housed him, and fed him, he spent time in the pool
water measuring and remeasuring, the gave me a quote and I paid him for his
time and fuel to come and do the measurements. Mitch gave me a quote of
$******* for the liner and installation on the 11th of November
2015.. I paid him a deposit of $*******, he left, ordered the liner and
returned in December of 2015, with the liner and some hot tub accessories ( as
he was going to do some maintenance on that unit as well. ) The pool liner
could not be installed, as it was not the correct size, the company had not
made the liner to fit my pool, they had not allowed for the shallow and the
deep ends to fit as per the requirements, or Mitch had not sent the correct measurements, I do not know. So they (
him and his helper Roman), did the coping, spent a couple of nights, got fed,
puttered with the hot tub and they headed south and awaiting the liner with the
correct measurements. When the new liner arrived, Mitch and his son came to
install it. Once again, **** **** ***** * **** *** *** they were paid for their
work and their mileage.
By Easter weekend of 2015, it was obvious
there was an issue with my pool liner. The bottom was full of wrinkles, the
sides were creased. I was told that it just needed time to settle. The problem
only worsened. I was told there was water getting behind the liner. my head said...
because there was a hole in the liner, but Mitch disagreed. The pool was
drained, they looked for holes, found nothing, the pool was refilled, the
creasing came back, worse than before. The pool was redrained, sometime later,
this time they drilled out my output jets, that must be the problem! The pool
was refilled , same thing, this time when the liner was dried, they found a
hole and it was patched. Each time the pool was drained, it was more than three
weeks before it could be used again, as it needed to be refilled and then
warmed to temperature. After this reoccurred four times, the pool company said
it was my pool, itself, there was ground water coming in and they wanted to
drill a hole through my pool wall, in the deep end, to which I absolutely
refused! So I went to a laboratory in Winnipeg, asked for sterile bottles and
instructions as to how to collect proper samples of the water in the pool and
the water behind the liner. I was able at this point to drain more than ten
gallons a week out from behind the liner, which is not a standard maintenance,
Mitch had inserted a pipe behind the liner, in the northeast corner, so this
extraction could be done. Not acceptable, the liner was taped with this pipe
permanently installed! By now, with the pool being emptied, refilled, emptied,
refilled, the liner was not fitting properly. Worse than before. They silicone
coins into the liner edge to seal it! Ridiculous! My water samples were taken
from within the pool and from behind the liner, and I delivered them to *** laboratory in Winnipeg on November 19, 2019 and I received the results on
December 3, 2019.
The results showed
that the water from both locations was 99.89% the same…proving that the liner
was allowing water to seep behind it. The water had the same chemical from both
locations, proving it was not ground water. These tests cost me more than $******
and a trip to Winnipeg as the samples need to be at the lab within 24 hours of
collecting them. I contacted Mitch, what to do now? I was told by him if I
bought the paint, they would come and do the work, taking the liner out, drying
and repairing the concrete where they had drilled by the output jets, the light
needed to be replaced as it was taken out when the liner was installed in 2015.
I questioned Mitch as to timeline, he stated I will get back to you, that was
in November of 2019 and he has refused to answer my emails, or phone calls from
me... to this day!
I paid out of pocket;
$********* this was paid to Mitch. Plus I paid to have water hauled as it was
dry and I did not want to compromise my well ( I should not have had to refill
the 11000 gallons of water) I paid for lab water tests, I hired a diver to
search for holes in the liner, to my detriment, I had sucked all the water out
from behind the liner, the day Bruce came to my place, he cost me $****** and
made it perfectly, he would not testify on any case. Plus, I fed Mitch and his
workers, I gave each of them a clean bed, every time they came to fix their failed
workmanship! Or their faulty equipment!
The liner got so
bad I could no longer vacuum the pool, as the slack and creases in the liner
would suck up into the vacuum. I still could get no answer or message through
to Mitch, so in July of 2022 I hired a company to help me drain the pool, cut
out the liner, wash, clean, then dry the pool for two weeks and paint it. Once
again, this is weeks of losing the use of my pool, plus enduring the expense of
the paint, the cleaning supplies and the labour to get this done.
I have spoken to a
representative at ******** *****, my liner has a lifetime warranty, however it
is at a diminishing rate. The rep I spoke to, whose name is Joel, said the
liner would be replaced at a cost less 20%.
