I hired AB Universal Shutters { Andre *****} to install shutters at my business. The job included 3 doors and 6 windows. I accepted their quote of $ ** ******on May 14 2023 and paid the requested 60 % deposit and paid an additional $ **** 2 months later. and the work was to be completed in 14 to 17 days. 7 weeks into the project I saw the locks were not satisfactory as they required special keys and locks that could not bi changed by any locksmith in the city and new locks at a cost of about $ **** *** would have to be installed every time a new tenant moved in. Oh yes, the doors were at 3 separate businesses and the locks all took the same key. Two of the windows were measured wrong by the contractor and had to be remade. One of the shutters did not match the others in design. Workmanship was shoddy with proper stops not installed , and some other sloppy work. ALL I WANTED WERE DIFFERENT LOCKS that used regular keys which could be purchased a several suppliers in Winnipeg. After more than 50 emails back and forth he sent me a new invoice for $ *** ***on Oct. 17. That's ******* over the quote. Extra charges were remake of the wrongly measured windows, shipping and handling, labour for the initial installation , and miscellaneous. He demanded $ ** *** to complete the work and I said I would pay him the balance due on completion- [I did not say what amount] About 20 more emails with no resolution. On Nov 18 when I was out of town he was seen by a neighbor removing the three door shutters and one window shutter telling the neighbour that they needed painting. I advised him he had "******" the shutters and want them replaced and proper locks installed by the end of the year or I would get someone else to finish the job. On Jan 3 ,2024 I hired ******* ******** to install the proper shutters without any problems at a cost $ **** more than the original Quote. I have had no communication since Nov. 7 ****** ** ***** *** ***********
