A ******* thing just happened to me with Birchwood Volvo. I spend the morning looking and test driving two cars at two dealers. Finally settled on aBMW X1 xdrive28i, at Birchwood Volvo- salesman- Paul. I looked at Car-Fax and it mentioned a $1000 claim on the front, and a $4000 claim on the front two years later. To me that was somewhat acceptable, and car-fax disclosed this.

Birchwood Volvo had their asking price - I countered, the sales manager Sales manger Stuart ****** offered to take off $200 - I countered - Stuart countered with -$300. Paul said Stuart didn't want to throw away more money because one of the dealers down the street was going to buy it for the asking price. **********************************
I reluctantly accepted the counter price and Paul and I started writing up the documents for that asking price. After we had written up the initial documents (not a bill of sale) but ones that required my signature, Paul went back to his sales manager - Stuart. It was taking a long time, so I went to see them in Stuart's office. Paul said "we need to show you a few things. We went back to his desk and he said: "There was some slight damage to the Right Rear end that you should know about. It wasn't a claim but the boys in auto-body fixed it up."

I asked to see the repair report and was given access to it. The report was a few pages long. It included numerous parts but the ones that stood out most was: r-inner door panel, r-front door assembly, r-inner rear door panel, r-rear door skin, r-door structure (beam - I forget what it was called) and numerous associated parts and labour.

This Car had been T-BONED!!!! and not claimed on a claim report - therefor NO -CAR-FAX!!

Yes they did reveal the damage before I gave them money - but they waited until I had already initiated the purchase, signed a paper, and then dismissed this extra as slight damage to the right rear of the car. They didn't claim it so it wouldn't show on a car-fax. And . . .they brought it up after the purchase was started.

*************************************************************** *************************************************************** ***** I read the repair report and recognized the damage of $11,000 + damage of a T-Bone and withdrew my offer.

I left and ignored Paul and went into Stuart's office ***************************** All he said was; "all we are required to do is to let you know that there was damage and it has been fixed. We did that." He repeated this a number of times in response to my complaints. I called it very ************* very poor sales practice. . . . ******************************

No apology, no attempt to make a price adjustment (to me that would qualify for a large price drop - for a 3x damaged vehicle - one of them being a T-BONE.

    *************************************************************** **********

Wasted day******************************************* I WILL NOT GO BACK TO BIRCHWOOD VOLVO!

At Birchwood, Experience is Everything. In order to prevent our customers from having a poor experience and driving home in a vehicle that they will not be happy with, it is our duty to disclose any and all information pertaining to a vehicle before purchase.

Part of the process of disclosing information involves reviewing all prior damage to a used vehicle, in this case some of the damage was fixed so recently that it had not yet been processed on the vehicle's CARFAX report. Our salesperson mistakenly thought the recent repairs were in fact in the report.

Through finalizing the purchase of the vehicle our sales manager noticed all damage had not been reported. Only 2 of the 3 claims were in the report.

Prior to signing off on the deal, we provided the customer with transparent repair information that was not captured by the CarFax report. Our team ensured the customer was provided this information before agreeing to any formal, written, or financial transaction.

While the circumstances of this customer's experience were unfortunate, we are happy that transparency ensured the customer did not end up with a purchase they weren't entirely satisfied with.

We wish this customer all the best in finding their next vehicle.
