We took ownership of our original sofa and ottoman from Hotchkiss in NS on April 13, 2020. $2,554.04 which incl $241.66 for an additional warranty ('upholstery and case goods $1500-$1999). Within 6 mths buttons in the tufting on both the sofa and ottoman were ripping through the fabric and made holes where the were. In the meantime Hotchkiss had closed in NS, so I contacted the NB store on 10/15/20 and told them what I was experiencing with my new set and provided photos. They offered for someone come and fix the holes, but I was not ok with this resolution as due to the low integrity of the fabric it would certainly happen again. On 12/31/20 Hotchkiss heard back from the manufacturer Decor-Rest who advised that they were insisting on repair as the course of action. I said I was not happy with that resolution and I did not have faith that it won’t keep happening – I received no response. On 2/11/21 I advised Hotchkiss that I still had not heard from the person who to be repair my sofa, so they said that Decor-Rest offered to repair the sofa themselves. I advised that I would prefer a replacement. Hotchkiss finally advised on 2/13/21 that they would be willing to offer a replacement and provided me with the Decor-Rest link to pick something. There was very little stock due to Covid so on 2/16/21 so I picked a much cheaper option (a plain sofa chaise instead of sofa and ottoman). During this the cs mgr at Hotchkiss admitted to me that I SHOULD HAVE NEVER BEEN SOLD A TUFTED SOFA WITH WHAT WAS KNOWN TO BE A FRAGILE/THINNER FABRIC OPTION! My new sofa chaise was finally delivered on 7/15/21 and since day 1 we have been dealing with sagging and pilling of the fabric. Within a month the sofa looked 10 years old. Upon contacting Hotchkiss we were told that he piling is normal and to use a depiller. We have used 3 different ones constantly and this sofa is terrible. I have never been so unhappy with a furniture purchase and cannot afford to rebuy a sofa again after all this.
