I bought my car in Nov of 2023. On March 7th 2024 I took my car to my regular mechanic for an oil change at 2pm. My car had absolutely no issues prior to bringing it to the garage. I was there for an unusual amount of time waiting . It was then that ***** my mechanic and the owner or ***** and sons came out to tell me that he had bad news . He said that they had cracked my oil pan trying to get the bolt off . He said that whoever changed the oil in the car before I bought the car ..that they stripped the bolt. I said ***** how would I know that? How would you know that? How do you know that your guy didnt just do it now? You are the license mechanic and if you knew that the bolt was stripped why didnt you come out and speak to me about it ? Why didnt you come out and tell me what might happen? You broke it off and cracked my oil pan.. I should not be responsible for paying for a new oil pan or the labour to put it on.. He said look its broke and I will order you a new one and I will treat you right .. I was so upset that I couldnt even speak to him without getting more upset.. He charged me 394 dollars. I am willing to pay for the oil change but the rest is on them.. I did not break or strip the bolt or crack the oil pan on my car they did! Im being forced to pay for his mistake. Attached is a copy of the bill.

This type of Vehicle as well as the ********* ****** was built and designed with a small 8MM drain nut(Poor design). the last time this Engine oil was changed (Before customer owned the car) the plug was over tightened or installed with a poor rubber gasket and over torqued/ Cross threaded.(How was i suppose to no this) when my Technician had put a 8MM wrench on the bolt the wrench would nut budge the drain nut. as any tech would do he then  moved to a 8MM socket and ratchet. when that started to slip you then down size wrenches. once finally getting the plug to move it had cracked the pan around the drain plug (As its only made of Aluminum) so is this our fault?, were we suppose to just maybe leave the car as is an never change the oil? it could have went to any shop in the area or province for that  matter and the same thing happen. unfortunately it happens and it will happen again, and again, and again and it will happen at the dealerships and it will happen at independent garages and it will happen an ***** ***** *** ******** ***** all over the country!. and as far as using her good? i thought i was more then fair? Oil pan price is $225.37 and also calls for 3 hours labor which would be a total of $210.00 (my labor rate is quite cheap compared to others in my area) so the oil pan job alone would have cost435.37 plus taxes and shop fees (Brake Kleen,Razor Blades to clean silicone off, rags to clean oil) and of course silicone and gasket to replace new pan which customer was not charged for!!

I am rejecting this response because:
He knew it was ( so called stripped ) he did not come out and explain anything to me . Did not say look this could happen once they realized this. I am not a mechanic and I do not know for sure that this was done to my car by them or by some previous garage as he is stating . I don't feel that he was more then fair with the charges considering that I wasn't given a choice and I wasn't the one who caused the damage to my car . I have been a good loyal customer at this shop .
