During November 2021, Halifax Glass installed a shower door in my new tile shower. On installation day, I met with the installers to decide on the glass location. I showed them pictures of my studs from the framing phase and told them that I wanted the hinge screws driven into the available double studs providing required support for an 80 lb door. When I arrived home, the hinges were out plumb by 1/2 inch even though my wall was only out by 3/16 making it look far more crooked than necessary. The hinges were coming off the wall when the door was being opened. They drilled holes in my tile 4 inches from the profile with no intention to hit studs. They drilled/installed screws at harsh angles so crooked causing one side of the hinge be drawn off the wall and stressing the tile. They used 6 rubber hinge gaskets in the bottom hinge trying to hide their out of plumb mistakes. The owner acknowledged that the hinge installation is unacceptable and proposed a solution involving drilling more holes in the hinge and my wall. After seeing the mess they made, I lacked the trust required to allow them in my home again. I hired another glass company to look at options. For the past 3 weeks, I have spent hours talking to metal fabricators looking at custom hinge options, opened up my wall, installed an additional stud and installed longer screws. The problem persists. The only option left is drilling more holes in my wall/hinge. Drilling will likely damage the chrome plated back plate appearance and more holes in my wall in a very small area risks cracking my tile either immediately or over time. The owners have offered to refund my money however they fail to acknowledge that they have destroyed my entire $8000 shower with no alternative solution. What is the point of a refund if my shower door hinges are still coming off the wall, hinge faces are damaged and the tile may crack over time. They even tried to blame the issue on uneven tile yet they chose the hinge location.
