On November 6th, 2020 at about 5am ******* and I made our way to the IWK to give birth to our second child. About half an hour into our trip we hit a deer. Everyone was fine and we gave birth to a healthy baby boy. Sadly, this accident completely totalled our family vehicle leaving us worry about insurance and obtaining a rental car to get home to our almost 2 year old daughter instead of enjoying those first few hours with our new baby. We got a rental car the same day we delivered our baby and then settled with insurance on November 19th. Now we were under a time crunch! We had until November 24th when the rental car needed to be returned. We needed to replace our family vehicle asap! ******* and I took our two young children for drives around car lots for days looking for a vehicle we could afford that was going to fit our family. During our search we came across a 2012 Ford Explorer at Loyal Auto Sales on Sackville Drive, NS. Given our budget and time crunch we felt this 3 row SUV would be the best vehicle we would get. On November 24th we bought our new to us SUV for $7500 cash from *** (the owner) with a brand new 2 year inspection sticker and immediately returned our rental car. As part of the deal we supposed to receive 4 “like-new” tires for the winter. Upon pickup of the tires Loyal Auto Sales loaded them for ******* and showed him the last tire loaded. When we went to get the tires put on we were told they were all different treads and not suitable for driving. We didn’t have this part of the agreement in writing so we purchased 4 new winter tires and cut our loss. Then on August 5th, 2021 (8 Months later) we took our Explorer to a reputable auto shop in Windsor, NS to have our back brakes serviced. Our breaks we're not serviced during this appointment, instead ******* received a phone call with a quote of approximately $2500+ of work needed to be done for the vehicle to be drivable. The owner of the auto shop told us not to put our children in the car and drive it the 3 minutes home “it’s that unsafe”. This was absolutely devastating to hear considering the week prior I had made a trip to Yarmouth and back with our two children. We had no idea how much risk our family was at driving in a vehicle we had only owned less than a year. The auto shop advised us to not put the money into the Explorer as that could just be the beginning. They foreseen future issues coming up that would cost more than what the car was worth or going to last. “It looked band-aided together.” So off our family of 4 went to find another new vehicle for the second time in less than a year driving in Brendan’s commuter car; a ****** Echo. On August 7th, we found a new vehicle and were offered $3200 for trade in. Upon their closer look at the Explorer and bringing up the ******, our vehicle was no longer worth $3200… in May 2020, 6 months before we even purchased the vehicle it was a total write off! Damage of $10 889.17! Meaning there was no way it should have even passed the inspection. Loyal Auto Sales knowingly sold this death trap to a young family with a 2 week old baby and toddler without batting an eyelash! The ****** report was never presented to us when we purchased the vehicle. As well as no information of previous car accidents. We never thought to ask for these things given all the major events that had just happened in our life - yet they should of legally disclosed that. The same day we found out about the accident in May 2020 ******* approached Loyal Auto Sales, owner ***, for answers about the Explorer and why he sold a car that had been written off to us. *** had no genuine reaction to this information, and acted as if he had been caught. ******* tried to negotiate a deal to right the wrong that had been done. We had been cheated out of $7500 and unknowingly risked our lives every day. After 40 minutes ***’s best offer was $1500 and only if we returned the Explorer. His plan was to “fix” the car again and we assume resell it. We declined this offer as it didn’t seem fair to us and we would’t have been able to sleep knowing another family could end up with the Explorer and not have the same outcome we did. In the end we realize we will probably end up taking a loss but we want others to hear our story to prevent any future buyers from ending up in the same situation we did. In the last 3 weeks there has also been 2 other google reviews done with a similar experience at Loyal Auto Sales. I would never recommend Loyal Auto Sales!
