I am an international student from the Bahamas enrolled in CCA program at CBBC career college I had first approached the college in May of 2022 to apply to the program. I didn't want to go through a third party or have my funds sent to them because of all the fraudulent activities I have heard before. The school said that I had to deal with this agency and that I can trust her because all of their students from the Bahamas deal with her. I paid ** ****** of ********* *********** services in June $16,400 bsd which is equivilent to over $20,000 cad. This money was for both my sister and I and was supposed to be inclusive of the consultation fee of $362 bsd, student package of $3600 bsd and the remainder $12,400 bsd was to be placed on the tuition. This company have delayed me from attending school as well as hasn't paid the funds that she received a year ago. She didn't deliver what was promised and it was only not that she is saying that the total tuition when transferred to cad was not going to be applied to my school account only some of if and I was to pay the balance. My tuition is $12,400 cad plus books of $374 cad. The company told me that my balance would be about $4500 cad. I was told from this company that my balance was To date none of the funds have been deposited to my tuition and the school has been contacting me constantly threatening me to pay school fees or I cant continue my classes. I have never gotten an invoice showing fees of any sort from this company or the school. Only when I mentioned that I am seeking legal action because I am tired of the emotional and mental stress this is causing me have they just now stated or showed an invoice that had never been discussed. The school wants me to be behind this company whom they recommended and have dealt with to get the rest of their funds owed. Had I have paid on my own I wouldn't be in this predicament. I just want the school to take full responsibilty for this and myself to pay only what I was told.

      BBB Complaint #2041107 Response

CBBC would firstly like to provide some context around the organization that is at the centre of this issue; namely, the ********* *********** Services (***) – owned by ******** ****** ******.  When we undertake to use the services of an international consultant, we vet them initially by requesting a link to their website and a reference of one other Canadian college or university to which they are currently sending students.  In this case, we received a reference from ****** International, with whom we spoke, and the *** online presence was reviewed and appeared in good order.  We then conducted an interview with *** and began to work with them.  No red flags were raised in the vetting process.

Our Business Development Consultant for international students, **** ******, performed the vetting process and had innumerable exchanges with *** throughout our time working with them.

Although CBBC referred the student to *** as a recommendation, believing they would help foster intercultural understanding as both the student and owner of *** are from the same country, we did NOT at any point instruct the International Agent to collect fees on behalf of CBBC; our policy is to deal directly with students for program payments. Using this agency was not a requirement for admission to the program, and no clai** to that effect were ever made.  Our relationship with the International Agent in question has ended as a result of this situation, and we will no longer be recommending her services nor accepting students referred from her company.

To date, the International Agent has not paid CBBC nor have they refunded the student. Our number one priority is supporting the student through to a successful completion of the program, and we have been flexible and supportive with payment arrangements and plans and will continue to be so going forward.

      Sincerely,

      CBBC Career College

I am rejecting this response because: There was no pre***e solution. Their response sounded generic, they said that they are working with me but still wants me to make payments which I don't have and it was said that I would be reimbursed. Also I was told  to recover the funds from a person whom I was referred to by the institution. I was never given the option to pay directly when I first contacted the school without the agency that they referred. They told me to deal with the agency therefore their policy was never made known. I am no the only international student this has happened to. It was told to us by the agency recommended by the the school that all fees should be paid to them as they have an account with the school. In order for my *********** documents to go forward I would've had to pay my tuition which was a little over half.  I don't feel comfortable reaching out to the third party to retrieve the funds. Despite the inconvenience and the stress that I have been experiencing from this institution I just would like that the monies I paid to the school through the company be applied to my student account and my tuition is paid.
