I retained Modtech to do a basic spring servicing of my HVAC system. The service technician arrived and was seemingly overwhelmed by the task at hand. He was unable to restart the furnace unit after having serviced it. He then spent seven hours (not a typo) on hold with the manufacturer's warranty line.At the end of the exchange with the manufacture's warranty line I was advised that a component of the system was not working and would need to be replaced - but the component was not available for six months and therefore the entire furnace would need to be replaced.A Modtech supervisor became involved over the next several days and to my astonishment said that he had recontacted the warranty provider and established that the service technician had quoted the wrong serial number so that the entire previous conversation, including the necessity of replacing the furnace, was mistaken. Days later the same overwhelmed technician arrived at the property to replace a unit component the furnace. In the course of this the technician completely disabled the system connection to the home automation (Control4) program. I was required to bring in an audiovisual company at considerable expense to re-establish the functionality of the furnace/thermostat integration with the wireless home control system.At the end of it all to my shock and amazement Modtech found it appropriate to bill me for the time their technicians had been on hold with the manufacturer's warranty line. Modtech attempted to collect this account through an agency to which I immediately replied that I would be happy to litigate the matter in small claims court with a significant counterclaim claim for damages.That appears to have been the end of them. I would no more use these guys than ask a barista to fly an airplane.
