Structural repairs to basement done Nov 1, 2022 by Dumont Foundations. *** ****** came with a worker but did not stay while his worker did the work. The worker placed 2 metal posts on each side of the basement door opening where there was a sag. While removing the door frame he discovered some wires and boxed them temporarily and said he would speak to *** about this. He also doubled up a board for added support in a 2nd area that had an opening. The board was cut too short, not secured and can be wiggled. According to a structural engineer who saw the work it was done improperly and should be tight. I made *** aware of this in December 2022. Over the next 4 months I tried repeatedly to get someone to come back but there was always an excuse. They were supposed to come periodically and adjust the poles to lift the sag but that never happened either. At the very least, they should come and replace the board.

      Complaint: 20348214

I am rejecting this response because:

The whole reason for my complaint is that he has repeatedly told me he will come then doesn't. This has been going on for 8 months now.

I advised *** ****** by email on August 1st that I was back from holidays and he has yet to reply let alone book a time and date and then show up.

      Thanks,

      ******* *****

It is my understanding that someone from our company went on Aug 16 or Aug 17 and completed all the items in question.

Obtained Dumont Foundations located on Carp Road to fix a crack on the outside of my foundation at the end of May 2023 A worker came into the basement and maintained the interior of crack with injection and pins 2 weeks later a crew came to excavate the outside of the foundation I have a deck over top of the foundation and I was told by **** ****** that the deck would be lifted up (jacks) to gain access to the rear crack However this was not the case instead the workers removed interlock from the side of the house and apparently tunnelled to the crack this indeed was an enormous task due to the limited work space for shovelling 2 weeks later I was told the job was completed I attended the side rear yard observing the interlock was replaced and lattice paneling was put back around my side deck. I paid **** ****** $3600 in full for a job that was supposed to be finished However the first rain fall clearly showed otherwise the replaced interlock had split apart and a medium sized sink hole type hole had formed June 19 I had sent an email to **** ****** who stated this was just a “form of settlement” after their work was done June 26 there was a large rainfall and the water ran right into the hole and under the deck. There was a large pool of water underneath my deck reaching above the noted foundation. There was no drainage area whatsoever. I used a pump and a shop vacuum to remove water as it was clearly excessive The next morning when it had stopped raining I was able to look underneath my deck Clearly the work was not completed as Dumont Foundations did not refill under the deck with gravel or soil. It was left empty further one of the deck footing has been left inside not even attached to the deck It was quite evident that the water had pooled underneath my deck As in my contract with Dumont Foundations it was clear they were supposed to refill the work area when finished yet failed to do so Contacted company who advised they would get back to me?

We have been in contact with ***** **********, the homeowner, and in our discussions I mentioned that it is expected that there would be settlement and that we would return to touch up/repair. It was also noted on the invoice that there would be settlement and because of that expectation we added additional steel supports for the deck and fastened them to the foundation wall so that there would not be any future possible movement of the deck. It is quite common when excavating under a deck or large immovable object that compacting the backfill is limited and that there will be settlement that would need to be touched up in the future, in which ****** will address and complete.

Unfortunately, there is some confusion as it was never stated that "the deck would be lifted up (jacks) to gain access". It was mentioned that the deck would be supported while excavating so that we could maintain a safe work place and of course maintain the stability of the deck. Unfortunately it is a common misconception between "support and jacks".

I think the main thing that is overlooked in the situation is that water is no longer infiltrating the foundation and entering the house.
