We recently arrived from Boston where, to obtain a lot plan of your house you need only log in to the city web site and download it. - Free.
Case study:
We bought our house here in London, ON, in 2018. We would now like to add an extension.
I asked **** a BBB accredited surveyor to do a survey. They are very busy and suggested I may find some other company who may be able to act faster. The surveyor I talked to noted the site and found that it had been surveyed by Callon Dietz over 30 years ago and suggested that I contact them, and he gave me the reference number.
Callon Dietz surveyed the lot where the house is located in around 1990. No changes have been made to the house or lot since then. The house has changed hands many times. But when I asked to buy a copy of the site plan they refused, saying someone paid money for the survey and they would not sell it as it is private property. That is just an excuse because
a) The original customer clearly has no justifiable interest in the site plan of what is now my house.
b) The lot information is, in any case, public knowledge, registered with the city.
c) While Callon Dietz, on the one hand, claims the plan is someone's private property, on the other hand they will have no qualms referring to it and using it if I paid them to make another survey, which is evidently what they hope.
They also said the plan is out of date. Of course it is, but neither the lot lines nor the house have moved since the house was built, and that is the information I seek.
They can implement whatever legal policies they like, in an attempt to maximise their income, but to support those policies with specious arguments, to the detriment of their customers,*************************************************************
