On May 29th, 2022 my car wouldn't start and I searched the internet for a towing company. While scrolling through the towing options I was drawn to Canadian Towing Ottawa because of the claim "Get a full licensed tow truck to get you fast anywhere in Ottawa for $95". Upon clicking the link I was redirected to the website in which claimed "Towing from $95". After calling the company, waiting and getting my car hooked up, and start driving to the auto shop I was informed that it would be a $120 hook up fee plus $3 per kilometer. During the drive I talked with the driver for awhile and got a variety of explanations about the price discrepancy which seemed unreasonable so I informed him that I would follow up with with their office. After the tow I called to the office to gain an understanding on the price discrepancy, and received 3 different rationale: -The first was that they had changed their prices but a third party contractor hadn't changed the prices online, and therefore it wasn't their fault the prices were misleading -The second was that the price said from $95 and therefore I should have accepted any price in excess of $95 -The third was that they communicate the price of their services over the phone and it was my fault for not phoning to confirm the prices on the internet were accurate I find all these rationales to be ridiculous in their own way. Whether a company maintains their website in house or through a contractor they are still responsible for it's content. If the word "from" can indicate any value higher than, it makes the $95 an arbitrary value no different than $45 or $115. Also in no other industry should it be expected that somebody sees an advertised price and is expected to go and find a sales associate to confirm whether advertised price is accurate.
