I asked for a service call to check my home generator at their convenience. This was not an emergency situation and there are other clients on our road so the company is here regularly. After six weeks and two reminder calls the technician arrived. There was a minor problem based on my concern and the technician fixed the problem using a meter and making an adjustment with a screwdriver. Total time working 30 mins and total time on the property 45 mins. When I received the invoice ** **** dated Oct 15th, 2022, it was Oct 19th when I received it and it was also due the same day. Total owing $248.60 for 30 mins actual work done at their convenience. The invoice read "Generator Service" with no specifics of work performed (for warranty purposes) and no rates for labour or time involved. When I called to complain about the due date and total cost I advised the person who answered that I would not pay the amount on the invoice without speaking with the owner of the company and receiving full justification for such an outrageous charge. It looked very much to me like a "rubber stamp" invoice sent with a price gouging intent. The person I spoke with was named ***** and she asked me how much I thought would be fair. I responded with $200.00 which I considered to be an excessive amount but was willing to pay. She agreed and I advised her that if this was going to compromise our business/client relationship then I would withdraw the offer and proceed in another manner. She accepted this. A subsequent letter to me acknowledged receipt of my cheque and advised that I would no longer be serviced by their company. I wrote a letter to them outlining my position and asking for them to reconsider. To date, no answer on this issue but I know the letter was received because their bookkeeper notified me about another issue, which was lack of an HST number on the invoice. This is the first time I have used this company. Competing companies charge 160.00 per FULL HOUR hour plus HST.
