When we hired MD Construction back in late summer of 2021, we were told that once they started our basement renovation, it would be their main focus and they would aim to minimize interruption to our family life. It was explained that they have a team that has worked together for years and that they work quickly and efficiently. Since starting the job on January 10th, 2022 this has proven to not be the case. The job started with a lack of communication and a set of bookshelves mistakenly ripped out. MD took responsibility for this and agreed to build us new ones at no cost to us which we were pleased with. Back when we hired MD, and reiterated closer to our start date, we communicated the flooring we chose for our renovation. MD delayed ordering this flooring until after our reno was well underway. This led to a delay in when it would be available and us needing to choose new flooring. There were communication issues throughout as the construction workers (there were usually only 1 or 2) worked short days (approx. 8:30-3:30 max) so we didn't see them. The project manager assumed we were discussing things with them so was not providing updates. We were given various dates throughout the process of when things would be completed and timelines were rarely followed (end date has come and gone multiple times). Most recently and our largest concern is the insulation in our laundry room that they placed directly on the concrete without the addition of tar paper as laid out in our contract. Had this not been spotted by a knowledgeable family member, we would have ended up with mold. This was brought to MD's attention on March 13th and they "remedied" it on March 15th. Unfortunately, when inspected, they only did a portion of the wall, leaving the insulation behind our new cabinetry against the concrete. They also agreed to adding insulation between the concrete and water pipes to avoid freezing but failed to do so. We want our reno finished properly and efficiently.
