Mountainview prepped the driveway on 08/19/21 and paved it 3 weeks later 09/09/21 It was not prepped correctly: it should be dug down 6-8 inches and then backfilled to grade for water flow, before the asphalt is poured on top. This is confirmed by 4-5 different local paving professionals, and a simple ****** search (Prep a driveway for paving) Due to the fact that Mountainview chose not to remove the existing base (cut corners), and just paved over top of it, this halfway done job is creating problems. -Water continues to pool in my existing walkway. -Water continues to go into the garage, despite the crooked swale that they created. -Most companies also do a slight crowning, so that water can flow on both sides, soas to not overflow in one spot. -Water is flowing towards my house, instead of pouring onto the grass on either side. Also, I have had several family members injure themselves already on the tripping hazard due to the seven inch height difference between the new driveway and the existing grass. -The side of the driveway is crooked, and cannot be fixed. When I brought it to their attention, they had men come and "scuff up" the orange line in the grass, so that it is not so obvious how far it was away from the mark. -When it was pointed out that there was puddling at the end of the driveway, they came back to put burn marks in the pavement. Those mini swales just move the water around, and are an eyesore. I've had strangers ask me "How did your driveway get burned/damaged here?" -there are plants growing through the brand new asphalt, about a month after install. A ****** search indicates this happens when the base is not prepped correctly. I have spoke to the owner and employees from Mountainview. They came here and heard the complaints, this is why they dug the swale deeper and scuffed up the painter's line, and added the mini swales (burn marks) to the driveway. Phone calls and emails about the big issue of improper prep are going unanswered now.

The driveway paved at ****** *** residence turned out beautifully.

During the original on site quote we had discussed 2 options for water run off issues because the lay of the land had the driveway much higher then the home and garage. Option 1 was to excavate in front of the garage to create a custom drainage system to be installed prior to paving. Therefore the water would drain into the ground, much like a cache basin. Option 2 was to create a swale in front of the garage to direct the water away from the garage, off to the side. The home owner decided to go ahead with Option 2 as it was a much cheaper option.

The base was completed before paving and was left to settle. During that time there was no complaints about our workmanship of any kind. The driveway was then paved.

****** called us to complain about water going into her garage some time after the work was completed, so we had the owner and the general manager go over to take a look. They explained because of the pitch going towards the garage and house will always be an issue directing water away from those components. They then pointed out to her the existing retaining wall that ran toward the entry beside the garage, they pointed out the years and years of erosion, which was caused by the water running into that area. This was an obvious existing problem well before we came to do work for this customer.

They asked her to open the garage door to take a look at the water she said was in there and also a mattress that she said was ruined by water, they did not see any water present, nor any mattress.

They told her if she felt the swale was not deep enough that they would send out a supervisor to make a change in the asphalt so it would be a little deeper to make her feel more comfortable and we also gave her a $500.00 discount for an apparent mattress that was ruined (which we never seen upon inspection) to make her a happy customer.

When the job was complete, we did a water test with the hose, the water drained as it should to the south west corner of the garage, with no water entry into the garage or the entry beside the garage. She was happy with the discount and changes made.

A few weeks later she complained again, this time saying she has had multiple paving contractors come down and look at the driveway telling her it was wrong and some of her neighbors as well. The owner went back again on a day it was pouring rain and took a video and pictures proving there was no water going into the garage and the water was running off to the side perfectly. The driveway was functioning like it should, with no problems.

The lady in the office then contacted ****** to tell her that the owner and manager were willing to come out yet again to meet with these so called paving experts that she knew, to discuss the driveway. There was no response.

The last we have heard from ****** was on the BBB complaint.

In closing, the driveway turned out beautiful, as quoted, as originally discussed. Between the owner and the supervisor there is over 30 years experience in the paving industry and they are not going to tear out a perfectly good driveway.

      Thank you.
