Complaint against Nationwide Roofing & Renovations. ********************* is the person I have been dealing with. My name is ************ acting on behalf of All ************** in *************** at ******************************************. The contractor repaired one of the many roof slopes at the church in February during a warm spell this winter. He was paid as agreed to. **** reported that another section of roofing shingles need to be removed and replaced, a section that is difficult to get to and not visible from the ground. I agreed that he do the work and a cost was established at $4,850. taxes included. He asked for a deposit of half the cost "for materials". On April 10/24 I personally gave **** a cheque from the church for $2425. Since then, I have been in touch with **** almost weekly by phone and text asking when he would do the work. He had several answers like trouble with his van, unsuitable weather conditions, a fall. May 24 **** said "...if not by next week I will refund there(sic)money ".June 3, I emailed "this delay has gone on too long. I would like you to refund our deposit this week" . **** pleaded for "one more week " . No show. No response from him to now, June 18. While the roof is not yet leaking, we at the church have had our tall organ which is directly under the faulty roof covered to prevent dust from entering it since February. We want Nationwide to formally tell us he is walking away from this job and refund our money immediately. We want to be able to hire another company to do the work without risking complications from Nationwide. An alternate contractor will want to be assured that they do not have to worry about interference from Nationwide. How do we do this ?

After phone calls to the roofer pressuring him to come to do the roofing work, **************** came to the church on Wednesday June 26 to do the agreed upon shingling.  The metal work was started the next day.   The work is not finished.   There may be a piece of metal left to install.  2 planks fastened to the roof to support the roofer remain in place.     ************

I am writing to file a formal complaint against ****, a roofing contractor with whom I signed a contract on March 13, 2024. The contract was for a comprehensive project involving the replacement of roofing, fascia around entire house, evestrough, a window replacement and covering wood around window with metal. As of today, only the roofing has been completed, and the fascia is only partially finished. The window remains untouched, and the metal framing around the window is still incomplete. This situation is unacceptable given the time elapsed since the contract was signed. We have already paid **** over 90% of the agreed-upon payment, with only a balance of $600 remaining. Despite our numerous requests for him to complete the work, **** responded by telling us not to pay him the remaining $600 instead of committing to finishing the job.I decided to hire **** after seeing the BBB logo on his truck, thinking that he would be compliant with BBB standards and practices. However, his lack of professionalism and failure to fulfill his contractual obligations have caused us significant distress and inconvenience.I am seeking the Better Business Bureaus assistance in resolving this matter promptly. Specifically, I request your intervention to ensure that **** completes the outstanding work to the required standard or facilitates an appropriate resolution.Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter. I look forward to your response and a swift resolution.

      Complaint: 21853538

I am rejecting this response because:
Its not true what he is saying, its remaining balance is $600 and I asked another contractor to give me the quote to finish the job. He told me 3k. I am willing to pay $600 and complete the remaining job in the reasonable amount of time and properly.

The original contract was signed in early March and now is mid June and work still not done. Its over three months.

This person keeps threatening me to take it to collection agency. Doesnt make sense.

I contacted them on July 5th asking to start the work since the City order due date is approaching. I told them if they can't do it then give me back my deposit so I can find other to do the work. They says to give them until the 10th, if they don't do it they give my deposit back. July 10th comes and goes. then they ask to give them until July 12th. I start to get iffy about their business and search on **************** July 12th comes and goes again, nothing. By July 14th, I told them they have a scam business and I will report them to the police. ***** **** has hired NationWide Roofing to carry out a leaking roof repair on his home in October of 2022. He Paid $450 for this service and the repair was considered to be done. However, the repair did not solve the problem causing a substantial damage to the interior of the house. ***** has called the company owner many times and finally in January 2023 one of the company's employees showed up at *** ******** *** to investigate the problem. He concluded that additional repair would be required and called the company owner to explain the situation. After the call, the employee of Nationwide Roofing spoke to ***** and informed him that additional fee of $250 would be needed to cover the repair, specifically the materials. ***** paid the employee such $250 (in cash) and nobody ever came back to fix the problem. Upon multiple conversations between ***** **** and **** (owner of the business) ***** was offered several appointments by the company to fix the problem, but every time nobody came. Finally, the company stopped answering ***** calls. This is when ***** asked his son in law (***** ******) to intervene and reach out to ****. At the beginning of February, ***** ****** called **** and has learned that the problem was not fixed properly or in the correct location of the roof and additional roof repair was needed which would cost additional $450 on top of the original $450 and $250 already paid , thus for the total of $1,150. One ***** learned about this amount, he decided to hire a different company and requested his $250 back. **** has agreed to pay it back and had setup multiple appointments to stop by ******* house to return the $250. Unfortunately, **** never showed up. ***** ****** reached out to **** via calls and text messages and was promised a resolution a multiple times , but it never happened. ***** ****** asked to return the $ via in person pay back to ***** or by email-transfer to make it easier on ****. This never happened either and **** kept delaying his return of $250 from one week to the next explaining that he has no monies and waiting for better business days. In summary: ***** **** is 92 years old and he is very distressed as he lives on Supplemental retirement pension and every dollar counts. **** ********* *** ****** ***** ************* ****** *** ********* ********* ***** entrusted in the Nationwide Roofing company because of its business card showing BBB affiliation and a Guaranteed workmanship and 20 years experience.

      RE COMPLAINT********    - March 29,2023

Last year we were called out to repair a leak. We found out that there was no chimney flashing. We were out to repair it with new chimney flashing. It was months after that they had called to inform us that he had a leak, We went out to inspect the leak and it was in a different area on the flat roof and not where the original repair was to the chimney. I informed him that if he would like the repair to the flat roof them it would cost more money. Client was ok with this but I believe there was a issues with a language barrier which may be the reason why he was not understanding what I was stating. The flat roof leak was not included in the chimney work quote. The additional $250 was not for the deposit. The $250 was for the inspection of the flat roof as it was on an over 2 storey house. Since he is a senior and there is a language barrier, We ask for 30 days to refund his $250 back to the customer. The clients son in law is not correct and there is false info in the complaint stated. He stated that the roof was leak after we went to Complete the repair (Chimney repair) but its not the same area of the house and is a whole other job on the house. This is why the job costed additional money to complete as it was not the same quote for the chimney. The flat roof leak came months after the chimney was repaired No calls after the chimney repair was completed for that issues for months after then the flat roof started with the leak.

NOTE: This is our fault for not writing up a contact with this client to have this agreement set in stone.

On Aug 29, 2022 I paid **** $3000 (via etransfer) as a deposit to fix the balcony flat roof and few Trusses under it. He quoted the price as $6400 and asked for the $3000 deposit. He never started the job after many requests. He promised many dates to finish. Balcony was leaking and it was damaging the Trusses in the ceiling of the garage. After manny tries and many phone calls, he agreed to return the deposit. He never returned the deposit and stopped answering my calls and messages. I was forced to hire another vendor to finish the job. Now I am chasing **** for my deposit back. It is an unfair and unethical business practice by him and his company. I want my $3000 deposit back.

      RE Complaint ********:

In paragraph 1 customer is saying that there is  few trusses that were damaged and roof. He is also saying that we have not been there but we have, and we have pictures which were provided to the customer to show him the existing damage of the roof before we completed any work. The roof and trusses were all full of mould and damaged plywood deck. Due to weather conditions and emergencies we were held up from starting the job. I would offer 3 consecutive payments of 1000 (Via post dated checks) Mailed to the address above. Although we did receive via e-transfer our company policy is to refund by company cheques. We do regret and apologize for any and all inconvenience that this caused this customer.

Nationwide Roofing did my roof on October 25,2019.I paid 1500 dollars. With firs rain roof was leaking .I called **** and after many calls he answer the phone promising he will come and fix problem, but he never showed up. At one point he promised he will give half money back. I understand that he had expenses for material and laborer and I even accepted that no matter he told me that he has over twenty years of experience and there wasn't my fault for anything he did. Text massages are attached. He never came...Because the water was damaging floors, walls and furniture I had to call other roofer to do roof repair. He successfully did the job. I would really need at least 750 dollars from Nationwide Roofing as he promised and relayed on when called another roofer, to help me partially cover this extra expense.

Business Response /* (1000, 8, 2022/04/24) */ ***************************************************************** ******************************************* As per customers complaint above, The customers roof was a flat roof repair and everyone knows how expensive a flat roof repairs are. Once upon doing the estimate for this job I informed them that the whole roof was needed to be repaired (Whole new roof). When giving her the cost of the repair and the cost of the new roof, I informed her that the repair may not work and I really recommend the roof being replaced to not have this problem in the future. I have worked with her with the cost of the repair and full roof to try and help her out financially. She choose the repair which was the cheap way of doing it. After the repair was complete I did not hear from the customer for at least a month, when she contacted me to inform me that the roof was leaking I came out of investigate. When I went to examine the leak I informed her that this was not the proper fix (as I informed her at the first meeting with her) and she should of fixed the whole roof with proper material and if that happened this problem would not of occurred. Customer choose to opt in to the cheaper option even knowing that it may not fix the problem as the whole roof needed to be replaced. Moving forward 3 years later, she purchased the proper material that I informed her of in the beginning and wanted me to fix the issue with no payment because she bought the material. I do not agree with that as 3 years has past, I also gave her 2 options in the beginning and she choose the cheaper way of doing things instead of taking my 20 + years of experience and my recommendation was ignored. Also she is requesting half of what she paid back ($750), however she got at least 1000 in materials on the job when we completed it 3 years ago. Since I declined coming to do the labour of fixing the issue when she bought the proper material, her husband then continue to harass me and contact me to get me to install the material with no payment, telling me that they want their money back and I stole off them even though I gave them fixing options and my recommendation in the first visit. I am very upset with this complaint as I attempted to help these customers out from the beginning and informed them of what I thought should of been done 3 years ago and with my experience. Consumer Response /* (3000, 10, 2022/04/26) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) I don't accept Mr. ****** response because he is not telling the truth and his response does not make any sense for the following reason: I had leaking roof and because I don't know nothing about a roof I called somebody who does that for leaving( Mr.******) to fix my leaking roof. I did not tell him what to do on the roof simply because I do not know what should be done. If I knew I would do it myself .If he knew that repair will not work why would he give me laborer warranty for five years that is written on invoice I paid 1500 dollars which is for me a lot of money. After that he was avoiding my calls and after agreeing that he will refund 750 dollars in text massage(which I enclosed with other documents) he completely disappear. I am not asking for water damages to the walls and floors due to leaking roof because I was able to do repairs myself, but I am asking for him to honor his word and warranty(which must be backed up somehow if it is not fake) and help me out with this 750 dollars he agreed to pay. Reason my husband called him is that he did not pick up my calls probably knowing my number. My husband did not harass him on any way. Mr. ****** was just told that is not nice to hide from his obligations and if he does not bring money as he agreed he will be reported to BBB. The reason why this complaint is after three years is because Mr. ****** was pushing week after week promising he will fix the leak but never show up and I wanted to believe he will honor his laborer warranty and keep his word(also did not have a choice) after he (Mr. ******) robbed me for 1500 dollars. With all this COVID closures took me a while to save some money(still I had to borrow most of it) for another roof repair because Mr. ****** did not fix leaking roof. Only what I am asking is 750 dollars he agreed to refund so I can pay debt occurred for fixing roof again after he did the work and roof was still leaking. Business Response /* (4000, 14, 2022/05/09) */ As per the customer complaint I understand that the roof was still leaking after we did the small repair that the customer and I had agreed on. I originally gave 2 options: 1.fixing the whole roof properly (Which I recommended) Or 2.repair the roof with roof coating to stop the leak but it may not work as the whole roof needed to be replaced with new flat roof material. I understand that everyone dont have a ton of money to replace the full roof with proper material which is why I offered 2 options with my recommendation on what should be done. Keeping in mind that I was working with the customer on cost of both options. Customer understandably didn't have the money to fix the full roof so a the whole roof was repaired with roof coating and was completed (option 2). The $1500 Was just for the repair from the roof coating. If the whole roof was to be completed would normally cost about over 5000. Just to come to amends with the customer I would like to offer $500 but that is the most I would be able to offer this customer as the work is already completed and have already took a loss as I came down in pricing to help them get the job done as requested. The material for this job alone (Flat roof coating ) cost normally around $800 plus taxes in material for the whole roof and then the labour is extra. We were at her house for two days at 8 hour each days to complete the repair. so the labour would of been about $1000. So in total I should of charged $1800 plus taxes ($2034) but I charged $1500 taxes in for the repair. which is $534 off the total job amount that came out of my pocket. Now another $500 so technically I did a $1800 job plus taxes ($2034 really) for $1034. So out of my pocket is $1034 for a job that was completed 3 years ago. The customer then went ahead and hired new roofers and they most likely paid more then 5000 for the new roofers the complete the way I recommended in the first place. If my recommended was taken I would not be here trying to fix this issue with them. I have 25 + plus of experience with 5 star review and a ton of happy customers and that is why I try to work with customers to give them the best job possible at little cost which is why I low balled in the beginning to help out this couple. Business Response /* (4000, 18, 2022/05/31) */ To end all of this, I will be able to honor the $500 to the customer and will be paid to the customer via Etransfer. I will be able to give $100 a week for 5 weeks would be the $500. Please forward your email to me so i can start the payments.
