On may 20th I contacted the business via ******** messenger for a quote to repair fence damaged during hurricane Fiona I sent pictures of damage and they supplied a quote for insurance company , We got a insurance payout settlement which means we could hire who we wanted or we could have done the work ourselves. Before they did the job I met with the owner **** ******** and discussed the job , the quote was for replacing 6 fence panels , after further inspection I decided that only 2 panels needed to be replaced and 6 sections of privacy lattice and to have a new 48” gate built. After the job was completed (2 complete fence sections 8 feet wide and 5 feet of fence board and 1foot privacy lattice sections x 6 and a gate , we received the invoice and it was the same as the original quote and didn’t match the actual work completed , we ended up paying $4922 for the work and he said that since it was an insurance job the price wouldn’t change. My complaint is that because it was an insurance payout he figured the money was all his but since it was a payout and we didn’t even have to technically fix anything he pocketed approximately $3000.

**** was a great fella to work for.
we did an awesome job and we worked hard to get it done as soon as possible.
we adjusted the quote accordingly as we did less work that he requested.  He asked us to quote one thing and then when we met he asked us to do something totally different after he got his pay out from ***** insurance.
I’m sorry that **** cannot understand the cost of running a business in this economy.
That being said **** was a pleasure to work for and I completely understand the frustration he has as he has had several insurance related problems in the past.
**** did get full payment from ***** and in the end pocketed a good amount of money.
I wish **** well and hold No Ill will from his complaint.

I am rejecting this response because:

I didn’t get a full insurance payout , a payout from insurance is only 80% so I’m the end we only got 80% of the quote. There is no way it costs $4922.00 to build 2 sections of fence , a 48” gate and 6 sections of privacy fence. This business would have no idea how much of payout we received and yes I asked for less work to be done that was quoted which was totally up to us in the end , that being said the final invoice should have reflected the less materials and labour costs anything more than $3000 for this job is totally way overpriced even $3000 is on the high end. All I want is a fair price for the fence worm that was completed and $4922 is definitely not fair at all in the end all it does is make your company look really bad as PEI is a very very small place

**** told us that he got full payment and that he was going to “keep the rest”.

At the end of the day **** said “you guys did a great job thanks”

We reduced the amount owing as per request and what was fair for the less work we were asked to do after **** got a full pay out.

We work hard and have great customers.

We left ***** feeling great about the work we did.

**** has had “several” insurance company problems in the past and I understand the frustration.

But the question remains how we were asked to quote one thing and **** got full payout and then when time to do the construction got us to do something different.

We are saddened by this complaint because it’s not just!!

We did a good job for a good price.

We feel like a bait and switch was pulled on us.

We have amazing references, great customer and truly believe **** is a good fella.

I am rejecting this response because:

I never once said I was going to pocket the money I did say the extra money was going to be used to repair other items on my property that wasn’t covered by insurance. In no way does this business need to know what I do with a 80% cash payout in the end I hired them to support local small business. Any reputable business would have charged for the material only used and charge a mark up of 5-15% on materials not 245%. The day I asked for the specific work only to be done i specifically said to save money and you didn’t say anything. The only bait and switch happening here was on part of Magnum PEI. I will be taking this higher for resolution. And I would like an exact break down of the charges for this job every piece of material used with associated costs and labour charges.let’s be real here. Tell me with a full heart that you didn’t overcharge due to the fact it was an insurance job , do up a quote for the exact work completed that a paying customer would pay out of their own pocket.
