On November 15, 2021 I was assigned to pick up a load from a farm outside of North Battleford for drop off in Saskatoon. I approached a hill not long after receiving the load from the farm. Due to the weather conditions which were freezing rain and icy roads I was unable to get over the crest of the hill. My semi-truck spun out into the middle of the road while approaching the hill. In order to get over the hill I knew I needed assistance from a tow truck. I reached out to my employer, ****** and they arranged contact with a towing company. My employer gave me a contact number for the towing company. I called and spoke to a representative who I advised the nature of the job and my location. She indicated she would arrange for a tow truck as soon as possible. As my fuel was running low I had no choice but to turn off the semi-truck and lights in order to preserve the battery and fuel. A motorist passing by had stopped and asked if I needed assistance. To which I advised the tow truck was on its way. I provided the gentlemen with reflective triangles and asked if he could please put them at the top of the hill to warn approaching vehicles. After a while I saw the flashing lights and a tow truck had finally arrived. The tow truck parked at the top of the hill. I see the driver walks down the hill towards my truck. As he approached my truck I opened my door. To my surprise the tow truck driver started yelling at me with vulgar and abusive language. To quote some of the driver’s words: “You know you’re a f-ing r****d. How the f-k did you get a driver’s license?” This derogatory language continued for approximately 2-3 minutes. The tow truck driver stopped yelling when I had not responded to his insults. At this point I was confused and not sure why I’m being treated in this matter. The driver proceeded to walk away and make a phone call. I assumed to his office. Once done on the call, the driver then asked me to put the semi-truck in gear, which I did. The semi-truck did not move. The tow truck driver proceeded to make another phone call. Once the call was done he then started taking pictures of my semi-truck logo, VIN number, and license plate. After taking pictures the driver walked back up the hill to his tow truck. After a few minutes he drove off without advising me of the situation. As my semi-truck and I were still stuck on the road with no resolution, I called the office once more. I spoke to the same representative and asked where the driver was going. The representative on the phone of the tow truck company advised me that the driver was leaving and that he told me he was leaving. The tow truck driver did not tell me he was leaving. I explained to representative the tow truck driver did not communicate to me he was leaving. The representative then disconnected the call on me. At this point I had to figure out another plan. I called the farmer whom I picked up the load from and I told him how the tow truck driver left me stranded. The farmer instructed me to stay where I was and that he would send someone out in the morning to help me. As promised the farmer sent someone the next morning and in less than ten minutes I was over the hill. I was treated with dignity, respect and to top it off *the farmer charged me nothing*. A bill from Vista Towing Company in the amount for $1,155 was received *four months after the incident*. I made an inquiry to the towing company in regards to this bill because at no time did the tow truck driver perform any type of service that night, even though I gave a detail description of my situation. When I called the number on the receipt I spoke to representative and provided my invoice number. The representative advised me that she knew exactly who I was and that there was no disputing the charges and disconnected the call. I would like to dispute the charges. There were no services provided that night from this towing company. In fact I would like to file a complaint in regards to the way I was treated by the tow truck driver and the representative. I was insulted and talked to in not only an unprofessional manner but derogatory, degrading and insulting manner. I have tried to discuss the situation with the company but after disconnecting my call, I have no further option than to take this to the Better Business Bureau for investigation in this incident. I would like the charges to be dropped and reimbursed to my employer, ****** as services were not rendered and I would like an apology for the way I was treated.
