Never use Picknic's Catering in Saskatoon. They catered our wedding this summer and the meal left us embarrassed, upset and hungry. First they changed the meat that we had paid for from chicken breasts to deboned chicken thighs without telling us. She said their cook made a mistake. If so, then they should have recooked the meat to give us what we paid for. Everyone was served a piece of meat that was a quarter or a third of a deboned thigh. It was the size of an egg yolk, two small bites. I talked to three other caterers after the wedding and one of our guests was an experienced caterer, everyone told me that a serving is two to three deboned chicken thighs depending on the size. The meal was served on small luncheon sized plates, not dinner plates, so very little food could be put put on them. The servers used small serving utensils so no one got a full serving of potatoes or vegetables either. I spent that evening and days later apologizing to our guests about the lack of food and tiny portion sizes. When I tried to discuss this with Nicola, the owner, she yelled and screamed at me and called me names. Her argument was that everyone could go back for seconds. My point to her was that if people were served enough food the first time no one should have to go back for seconds. Most importantly, we paid for everyone to have a full serving of food the first time they were served. Part of a chicken thigh is not a full serving of meat and the potatoes and vegetables were not the appropriate serving sizes either. There wasn't even $2.00 worth of food on the small plate and we paid almost $56.00 per plate. It was embarrassing to have such a poorly proportioned meal considering the price we paid, it was upsetting and it ruined the evening. They gave us a small financial refund, 2 frozen meals, and a few cupcakes as compensation all of which means nothing considering the embarrassment and upset we had on such an important occasion. I do not want anyone to experience what we did. Never use Picknic's Catering, they are dishonest and can not be trusted to serve what you pay for.
