    Consent Judgment

The following describes a government action that has been resolved by either a settlement or a decision by a court or administrative agency. If the matter is being appealed, it will be noted below.

On January 6, 2023 HomeServe entered into a Consent Judgment with the Kansas Attorney General and Sedgwick County District Attorney that settles allegations HomeServe offered electrical home repair plans that failed to provide a material benefit to consumers and made material misrepresentations. Under terms of the Judgment, HomeServe has agreed to pay $500,000 to the State of Kansas, and agreed to pay $350,000 for consumer restitution. Further, HomeServe will ensure that future solicitations using a third-party logo has clear and conspicuous language disclosing that HomeServe is an independent company separate from third party whose logo is used, that the third party is being compensated for use of said logo, and clarification that the repair plans being offered are being done so by HomeServe. The Judgment was for settlement purposes only and should not be considered as an admission of guilt or finding of violation of the law. For more details see the Kansas Attorney General’s press release.

I've had my share of dealings with bad businesses but HomeServe is by far the worst. if I could give them no stars, I would. I was a customer with HomeServe water and sewer line protection since 2019. Their plans used to be affordable and when I called them a few times for concerns in the past they would resolve the issue. However, in May 2024, my plan doubled from $53.45 to $113.90 without notice. It wasn't until I received my June FPL bill that I realized my plan had doubled. I called HomeServe on June 14th, the same day my bill was available, and canceled my plan because 1. I never received notification of the price increase and 2. I would not pay double (I understand with inflation, prices increase but not double the price). I spoke with a representative and had her notate my account because I would call back a few bill cycles later for my refund; since I as the customer was not given proper notice of the price increase in the first place nor did I agree to pay that amount (but because my FPL bill is on auto-pay; the $113.90 that was billed would come out of my bank account automatically on my bill due date.) When I spoke with a supervisor, she informed me that a check would be automatically sent to me with my refund of $113.90, in about two months. Earlier this week, I received a check from HomeServe for zero dollars and thirty-eight cents. I don't know what is more disrespectful, their lack of respect to customers (by not informing me of the price increase in the first place) or the thirty-eight cent check that they wasted paper for, printed and mailed to me. If anyone needs a professional company, steer clear of HomeServe. As a former customer who was with them for over 5 years; the way they handled my issue or lack thereof; demonstrates how they feel about their customers. The representative, Christopher in F******, who spoke with this morning was very rude and condescending. I asked to speak with a supervisor, he refused to transfer me to one.

Thank you Hannah for reaching out to me and taking the time to address my concerns. The discrespancy with my June bill was not on HomeServe's end but with ***; who failed to draft my payment for the Homeserve plan for the month of May. This non-payment by *** resulted in the increase on my June bill (for May and June payment). The actual increase in my plan was only $5, which is reasonable. After my conversation with Hannah, I am considering re-enrolling with HomeServe.
