    Six items were damaged and I witnessed three of items damaged. Danny (the mover) acknowledged two of them to me (3 & 6) and I saw three of them happen (1, 4, & 6). 1) Chest (Danny had the chest on a dolly and hit the door handle as he was coming through the door, which caused a noticeable dent.) 2) Bed (one support leg broken) 3) Stand (Danny said he lifted the stand by the bottom tile at the corner, breaking off the corner) 4) Media cabinet (Danny was moving shelves around and scratched the edges of the media cabinet) 5) Kitchen table (corner) 6) Desk (caused by Dolly handle - Danny pointed out.) The movers came 5/19 to evaluate the damage and weigh the damaged furniture. I told SM that I would be available after 6. However, I received multiple calls from Danny starting at 3:30PM and I wasn't able to answer since I was working. He kept texting me and let me know that he was waiting. So, I had to rush to get home ASAP so I wouldn't keep them waiting. The experience was very uncomfortable since Danny kept telling me that he was going to have to pay for the damage, kept offering me money and kept pointing out how heavy all the furniture is and I wouldn't be replacing it anyway. I didn't want to take his money at the time and Danny called SM so I could talk to a rep there. He wouldn't speak to her since he said she didn't like him. I wasn't sure what to say or do. I marked down the weight of the furniture. I would like to be paid for the damage but I don't want to deal with the mover directly as he made it feel like I would be getting the move for free. I felt like I was stealing money from him and it was very uncomfortable that I had to deal with the mover directly to get reimbursed. My furniture is still damaged from the move and needs repair but I'm not going to take money directly from the mover.     First, I want to clarify that the contracted movers were great. They actually apologized to us about the bill and said lots of their customers have the same frustration. Here is our experience. We called and spoke with Rony to quote our move. After calling 7 other moving companies (who all quoted 350-500$ more) we decided to confirm the pricing with Rony. We were assured that any time over quoted time would be prorated by the minute. This was also the only company who did NOT charge for the time during travel. We were quoted for an estimated 3 hour move. After the move was completed, the gentleman pulled out a pre-filled form with a flat 5 hour charge plus trip fee plus who knows what else. He called Rony and handed the phone to me, where Rony proceeded to tell me that the clock never stops running after the movers first show up. We ended up paying for 4 flat hours, but only because the contracted movers who actually did all the physical labor started to get nervous the company would take the money from them. As I leave this review, I am reading the others and wish we never gave student movers our business. We believe they lure you in with false promises, just to have someone else collect whatever amount they want.

    We apologize for the delay in our response. We attempted to reach you several times to seek a resolution, but we were unsuccessful. Our standard practices for moving have remained the same for twenty-five years. Our movers start the clock when they arrive at the pick-up location, and the customer signs the movers in. (Most of our competitors start the clock when they leave their office and do not stop their clocks until they return to their office.) Our clock does not stop until we are done unloading at the last location when our customer signs the movers out. You signed the initial start time and stop time for this move, so we are confused about the accusation of "the gentleman pulled out a pre-filled form with a flat 5 hour charge plus trip fee plus who knows what else". Our contracts are pre-filled by our staff with basic information like name to reduce errors, but signatures, additional charges, and times are left blank for the customer and crews to complete. We reviewed our recorded phone lines as well as all email communication prior to the move. There were multiple email communications prior to the move explaining our pricing structure. We also have recorded conversations from when you booked the move in which our sales agent explains our pricing, and you agreed. The contract you signed states "I agree to accept this proposal with an hourly rate quote and do not require the estimated number of hours to complete this proposal." Additionally, we have customers sign a "Before You Move" document. This document at the beginning states, "How Will I be Charged? All Jobs are done by the hour, with a trip charge. Time will not stop until the job is completed and payment is made." Student Movers strives to be known and applauded for our ethical business practices.
