The Robert M. Shomphe Student Integrity Scholarship

In recognition of the legacy left by Robert M. Shomphe, a leader and advocate for excellence and integrity in business, this annual scholarship supports the aspirations of post-secondary education students.

2024 applications now open!

The scholarship is available to individuals associated with Better Business Bureau (BBB) Accredited Members, their families, and employees, embodying Mr. Shomphe's commitment to promoting ethical practices in the business community.

 

The application Deadline is June 30th. Awards will be given between July and August 2024.

Three students attending a 4-year College or University will be awarded a $5,000 scholarship to be used to toward their tuition.

Five students attending a 2-year Community College, Certificate Program or Trade School Programs will be awarded a $1,000 scholarship to be used to toward their education related expenses.

  • Ryan Dodge, son of Sean Dodge, owner of Universal Windows Direct of Manchester. Ryan is a student at Bently University!
  • Myles Leatherman, son of Kiva Schuler, owner of The Jai Institute for Parenting located in Rye, NH. Myles is a student at Worcester Polytechnic Institute!

Eligibility and selection

Eligibility criteria for trade school students

The Robert M. Shomphe Trade School Scholarship is open to students pursuing vocational or trade education who meet the following criteria:

  • Affiliation with BBB Accredited Members: Applicants must be directly affiliated with BBB Accredited Members, either as members themselves, immediate family members, or employees.
  • Commitment to Ethical Trade Practices: Candidates should demonstrate a strong commitment to pursuing a career in a trade or vocational field, reflecting Mr. Shomphe's passion for promoting excellence in their chosen field.
  • Ethical Experiences: While emphasis is placed on vocational skills, applicants should exhibit experience with ethical practices, showcasing dedication and determination in their career pursuits.

Eligibility criteria for collegiate school students 

The Robert M. Shomphe Student Integrity Scholarship is open to students pursuing higher education at the collegiate level who meet the following criteria:

  • Affiliation with BBB Accredited Members: Applicants must have a direct affiliation with BBB Accredited Members, either as members themselves, immediate family members, or employees.
  • Commitment to Ethical Business Practices: Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to promoting and embodying ethical business practices in their academic and professional endeavors, aligning with the values upheld by Mr. Shomphe.
  • Academic Excellence: Applicants must exhibit outstanding academic achievements, showcasing dedication, and a pursuit of excellence in their chosen field of study.

Application process

Interested candidates are invited to submit a comprehensive application that includes:

  • Personal Statement: A reflective essay detailing the applicant's commitment to ethical business practices, their connection to BBB Accredited Members, and how the scholarship will contribute to their academic and professional goals.
  • Letters of Recommendation: Two letters of recommendation attesting to the applicant's character, work ethic, and dedication to ethical business practices.
  • Academic Transcripts: Copies of academic transcripts demonstrating the candidate's outstanding scholastic achievements.
  • Proof of BBB Affiliation: Documentation confirming the applicant's affiliation with BBB Accredited Members, such as membership details, family relationship, or employment verification.

Selection process

A distinguished panel, including representatives from the scholarship fund, BBB, and academic/trade professionals, will carefully evaluate all applications. Selection will be based on a combination of academic merit, commitment to ethical business practices, and the strength of the personal statement.

Application deadline:

The annual application deadline for the Robert M. Shomphe Collegiate Scholarship Award is June 30th, with the award announcement scheduled for July 31st.

This scholarship not only honors former CEO, Robert M. Shomphe but also serves as a testament to his enduring commitment to fostering ethical business practices. As recipients pursue their studies, they contribute to the ongoing legacy of integrity and excellence championed by Mr. Shomphe throughout his 25 years of service.
