BBB Pacific Southwest, Central & Inland California – Savvy Seniors Program

DID YOU KNOW?

  • Each year, senior citizens lose more than $36 billion to financial fraud, and because seniors are less likely to report fraud, far more unreported incidents may take place
  • Seniors are 47% more susceptible to scams than other age groups
  • Seniors lose a median of $500 in instances of fraud

PURPOSE

As part of their continued fight against elder abuse, Better Business Bureau (BBB) has worked to produce the second annual Savvy Seniors program. BBB's Savvy Seniors Program is focused on empowering seniors living and working in BBB's service areas with the information they need to remain protected against the personal and financial threats that exist to take advantage of this demographic.

Seniors are often made victim to negligent business practices and scams, and we want to ensure that local seniors are able to recognize and avoid these threats. BBB has delivered this senior-focused fraud prevention program with sessions across Southern California with expansion into Phoenix, Arizona.

WHAT IS A SAVVY SENIOR?

Courses as part of the Savvy Seniors series are aimed at coaching active seniors on how to recognize targeted fraud, including grandparent, social security, health care, imposter, romance, identity theft, debt collection and online scams. This program is inclusive of consumer and financial best practices.

In an effort to empower the local senior community, a series of seminars will serve as opportunity for seniors to receive information and best practices for protecting their financial and personal safety in the marketplace.
