Scammers. They bought my personal data and are now trying to extort money from me by having a fraudulent account put on my credit report. I've requested proof of the debt, in writing, six times now. Each time, they send me back a letter saying, "Let this serve as a verification of debt" and it's just a single line with an amount on it. They have yet to produce any contract that I have signed and dated, agreeing to the debt. How is this even legal???

      Collection Consultants of California Response

      11/01/2021

Collection Consultants of California is a reputable provider of billing and recovery solutions to organizations for over 30 years. CCOC does not purchase consumer data, nor is CCOC a debt buyer. The consumer's allegations that CCOC is engaging in fraudulent activities or trying to extort money from the consumer are false. We would like to assure the consumer that we are not scammers and hope to be afforded the opportunity to earn their trust. We are committed to helping this consumer resolve their account. It seems the consumer is disputing the validity of a debt that is being reported to their credit report. If the consumer is a victim of identity theft, the consumer is urged to file an identity theft report with the FTC and to provide a valid copy of the FTC identity theft report to CCOC. If the dispute is of another nature, the consumer should clearly state their contentions and provide CCOC with any information supporting their contentions. CCOC will review the information provided in detail and make any adjustments that circumstances merit. The consumer is urged to contact our office directly with additional questions or concerns. Likewise, CCOC will reach out to the consumer with any questions or concerns.

      Customer Response

      11/01/2021

I have requested, in writing and email, SIX TIMES, that Collection Consultants of California properly verify the supposed debt by showing me a signed contract. Each time, I have received a letter back with one sentence that says "This letter serves to verify that you owe this debt" with a dollar amount with no other information. CCOC continues to refuse to provide proof of the debt by providing a copy of the original signed contract.

Here is my clearly stated contention: CCOC has failed to provide ANY proof of debt. PLEASE VERIFY THE DEBT PROPERLY WITH A COPY OF THE ORIGINAL SIGNED AND DATED CONTRACT. If CCOC can not CLEARLY provide proof of the debt with a signed contract, CCOC is urged to contact the 3 credit bureaus and remove the fraudulent entry on my credit report.

Obtaining a person's personal data and sending incorrect information to credit bureaus and failing to properly provide verification of a debt is fraud. That is not the definition of a "reputable" company.
