More information
There are several reasons you may be considering car window tinting for your vehicle.
Temperature: the inside of your car will be cooler with tinted windows
Health: blocking the sun with tinted windows means you’re blocking some UV radiation
Aesthetics: you like the look of dark windows on your car
Preservation: reducing the light going into your car can protect the parts of your car (dashboard, upholstery, etc.) which are affected by exposure to sunlight
Privacy: you want to protect yourself and your family from curious eyes
Security: you don’t want people to see your belongings in your car
If you decide you want to go ahead with auto window tinting, the first thing you need to do is check your local laws for any restrictions related to tinting windows.
You can find links to window tint laws by state here. (The list was updated in 2016. If links are broken or unavailable, search for your state DMV or other state government sites to find current regulations.)
The law for your state may specify limits for the darkness of your window tint as well as rules for which windows may or may not be tinted and what percentages may be covered.
Some cars may be available with window tinting when you buy them. If you decide after your purchase to add the tinting, that is referred to as “aftermarket,” and you may look to your dealer for services or a specialist.

Select businesses earn BBB Accreditation by undergoing a thorough evaluation and upholding the BBB Accreditation Standards.
BBB assigns ratings from A+ (highest) to F (lowest). In some cases, BBB will not rate the business (indicated by an NR, or "No Rating") for reasons that include insufficient information about a business or ongoing review/update of the business's file.
