Description

I applied to an Indeed job listing for a remote Data Entry Clerk / Live Chat Employee at $20/hr training and $35/hr at a full time position level. I was contacted later through my phone line by Daniel Bolton. I was prompted to use Microsoft Teams to further the interview process and to get in contact with the hiring manager for Neo Data Technologies, who self identified as Martha Martins. Together we went through hours of reviewing policies and code of conduct for the position all of which aligned with the actual Neo Data Technologies company. They included the actual website link, address and other information from the company. Plenty of time was spent messaging back and forth going through the normal interview process, asking interview questions on how I could accomplish the tasks of the role. The second day after passing the interview process they sent me a detailed specification list of all of the equipment that would be provided to accomplish the tasks in a professional and secure manner. The list included: Apple MacBook Pro - 16.2” - M1 Max - 32 GB RAM - 1 TB SSD - Shipping and packaging supplies such as envelopes and tapes - HP LaserJet Enterprise M775Z Color MFP Printer - IT accessories including power strips, surge protectors, keyboards, and mice - Backup and storage hard drives. After all of this they offered to send me an e-check through email in which I was supposed to print out and mobile deposit it into my bank account. Fortunately the bank caught the fraudulent check before it made it through and contacted me. The check came out of Medieval Times Maryland, Inc. 5020 Riverside Dr, Bldg 3 Suite 400 Irving, TX 75039. I didn't move onto the next step but I believe they were trying to use a stolen or fraudulent checkbook and having "potential hires" to cash those checks and use the money on accompanied businesses that fund the money back to them.
