Description

The scammer Maryjane Byarm who claims to have moved to NYC where she is trying to sell hair growth products was based in Dubai when I purchased some rice water hair strengthening and anti grey shampoo and hair treatment products. I came across her videos on YouTube where she looked as if she were buying hair growth products from the long hair women of Guilin China. She claimed that she had formed bonds with these women and because these women lived in such a remote village, she wanted to make these very effective products accessible to others who want to stop hair shedding and grow healthy hair. She appeared to be speaking Chinese directly to the women who seemed very friendly. They appeared to have a great rapport. After debating the merits of buying products in a far away country that doesn’t have the same consumer protections as the U.S., I decided to take a chance after seeing another video of this Maryjane talking about the ingredients in the products and how all ingredients were sourced directly from the mountainous village that was far away from the major cities in China that had pollution problems. Obviously going to her website and making a purchase was a mistake. She made various excuses for why she was pushing back the delivery date- including the claim that she was a one woman operation and would be hiring more staff to make the process faster. After a good six weeks of waiting, I requested my money back, which she had said in the past, if I didn’t want to wait, she would refund my money. When I asked for a refund, she went radio silent. I gave her a final warning, that if she didn’t respond by a specific date, I would take action to secure my refund. Which I did. I contacted PayPal, the digital wallet that I used to pay for the purchase, and filled out a claim form in great detail. I then made another lengthy detailed report on the FTC website. Eventually PayPal did send the money back to my account where I had to wait for about an additional month to find out whether the money would remain in my account. Yesterday, I just found out that my case has been closed and PayPal decided in my favor and I will get to keep the money. The purpose of making this very detailed statement to the BBB Scam Tracker is because after filing reports about this scam and the woman who runs it with PayPal, FTC.gov and YouTube (where she posts her vlogs) this woman is still posting videos trying to sell products to unsuspecting people. She mysteriously left Dubai and is claiming to sell her own rice water, with dubious claims to have apprenticed to the Guilin women and learned all their secrets for making rice water (the rice water that she once claimed could only be made effectively in Guilin). I got my money back from PayPal but there are others who were scammed and are still waiting to get their money back from this woman.
