Our pup had to have pins placed in his leg the week of October 17th due to a fracture. Veterinary Specialists of Birmingham completed the procedure. We took our pup back to reevaluate his break and make sure all was healing well on November 21st. At that time, I was told his pin removal ********************** would be between $200-$400 since this was less invasive than the actual surgery. We scheduled the pin removal for today, the 16th of January. I was not provided an estimate of services at that last visit, nor were there any documents emailed to me detailing the cost of pin removal ********************** from November 21st until today. I arrive between 6:30-7:30 (6:45 to be exact) to check pup in for his procedure. Before coming to get ***** to take him to the back, the young lady at the counter proceeds to say, Are you still ok with the $800-$2000 estimated surgical cost? Well, NO I am not since this was not the prices verbally disclosed. The young lady goes in the back to talk with the surgeons and they confirm the cost to her and she relays that information back to me at the desk. We ended up leaving the facility with pins still intact because I can not afford this and was not properly notified of those costs prior to driving 40 minutes in one direction to have these pins removed. It caused my pup added stress of riding for over an hour round trip and set my day in motion in a very negative manner. If a facility is going to provide a service that renders anyone an expense greater than $500, they should be made to provide a printed or emailed estimate of the cost of services. This was a major waste of time and now my pup will just have to live with the pins. Had I been notified I could have made arrangements to save the money and pay for this, especially given the time between our follow up and the actual date of removal. But now, here we are, sitting with cost shock and a stressed pup. Very disappointed.Business response

We have spoken with ********************** regarding her issue and have offered to provide follow up care. We scheduled a follow up up telephone call the next day to discuss next steps and have not heard back from her. We will place a follow up call to her.
