INCIDENT REPORT regarding the repair for claim listed above:
When I dropped off my truck for repair to the left bed wall and the tailgate, I had two people in the office of Joe Hudson auto repair on Honeysuckle in DOTHAN , AL acknowledge my special request," Be sure the 7 way plug INSIDE the truck bed that was installed when I had the 5th wheel hitch installed in January, 2020 is put back in correctly so I don't have to go 25 miles back to my house and hook it up to my trailer and find that I just have to come back."
That was the one thing I pointed out to Mike for special attention and I saw him put a note to that effect on the work order.
TODAY I went in to pick up the truck I was told that they did not have a tool that simulated a trailer to check the plug. I ask Mike, my appraiser, to go back and talk to the shop people and see if they installed the plug inside the bed correctly. He came back and said that their guy has a similar plug in his truck and he was sure that it was installed correctly and it would work (FIRST SMOKE UP MY BUT STATEMENT).
I paid my deductable and took the truck home. The truck did NOT detect that the trailer was connected when I plug the pigtail into the plug inside the bed. IT DID WORK when the pigtail was plugged into the plug on the bumper. I got out my multimeter and my wife and I checked for continuity between the bumper plug pins and the bed plug pins and found NOT A SINGLE PIN had any continuity, ALL WERE DEAD>
I called Mike and was asked to bring the truck back in.
Another 25 miles later, I explain to Mike that the wiring harness to the bed plug must NOT be right. He took the truck back into the shop and he looked under the bed and saw a plug hanging inside the wheelwell behind the bed plug that did not look right and called attention to the shop manager. Mike came back out and told me that someone had "forgotten" to plug in the harness to the bed plug.
John, the shop manager, came out and told me that the harness had been installed upside down and the plug hanging outside the bed plug was suppose to be installed between the bumper plug and the truck's wiring harness.
While I was waiting for the harness to be correctly installed, I was sitting inside waiting when a new customer came inside. This customer WAS WEARING A MASK CAUSE LARGE SIGNS ON ALL THE GLASS DOORS AND WINDOWS OUT FRONT MAKE IT VERY CLEAR THAT NOONE IS TO ENTER WITHOUT MASK. (Mask mandates had been withdrawn months earlier and when we turned in the truck NO ONE appeared to care and no one I could see was wearing a mask). SO the lady finds no one at the desk in the lobby; CHRIS is the man in the office behind me; I'm sitting right beside his door; said that Kelly, the lady that holds that business together, would be back shortly. The lady WITH HER MASK ON starts toward Chris's office door, get no closer than two feet from it when CHRIS shouts at the lady, "DON'T COME IN HERE, I DON'T HAVE MY MASK ON!" Unbelievable rudeness!!! I got up and went outside, followed by the lady who was very angry, got in her car and left. The man sitting across from me also got up and left saying "he was fed up with this place", got in his car and left also. The last person waiting in the lobby could not leave cause they had her car but she was also appalled! SOME PERSON OR PERSONS IN JOE HUDSON AUTO REPAIR HAS DECIDED THAT HE OR SHE HAS THE RIGHT TO BE RUDE TO CUSTOMERS! I DON'T to ever go back and request that IF I ever have the need for an appraisal in the future, that USAA assign me another company to go to. Rudeness like I and others witnessed today is UNCALLED FOR!
Meanwhile, the shop manage comes out and tells me that he is just a body man and can not check the plug. I explained to him that I had brought my multimeter with me and if he did not have one he could borrow mine to check and see IF the bed plug MIRRORED the bumper plug. He goes back to the truck; he comes back out and says that the truck has to have the trailer plugged in for him to check continuity! (MORE SMOKE) ; I explained that my wife and I had checked for continuity between the two plugs before I brought the truck back in and offered to help him do it. He then says there has to be power on the plug to check for continuity!!! I said power is NOT required; you are only looking for their to be a connection between the bumper plug pins and the bed plug pins!! (I am having to explain to him how to conduct a continuity check between two plugs that are suppose to serve the came purpose, the bumper plug is used by a 7 way plug off a pull behind trailer and the bed plug is used by a 7 way plug off a 5th wheel that is connected INSIDE the bed. SAME type plug used by different types of trailer to do the same thing ... allow power for lights, turn signals, brake lights and electronic brakes. NONE of this is rocket science, but the shop manager proceeds to tell me he has 16 years experience as a mechanic. (then WHY am I having to explain to him how to check to see if a plug that is designed to mirror the bumper plug is installed correctly!)
COME AWAY THOUGHTS: Joe Hudson has working within their Dothan repair facility, people who are unbelievably RUDE and people who are masters at blowing smoke up their customer's butts while installing wiring harnesses UPSIDE DOWN!
At least ONE man in that office does not care how he treats customers; THEY are seen as a THREAT even though the customer has done everything that the signs say to do before coming inside; YET HE does not wear a mask and thinks it is HIS RIGHT TO YELL AT CUSTOMERS to keep them OUT of his office; he thinks THEY are the THREAT to his health while HE refuses to wear a mask in his own office where signs boldly state NOT to come into their facility without a mask on! So disgusting that he is running customers off and out of the business!
Mike finally brought the truck around and TRIED to calm me down; He asked me to call him back after I went home and hooked up the trailer; I did and all checked perfectly.
I told Mike about the yelling incident; he witnessed all the smoke blowing and was complicit in the beginning until he himself looked under the truck and saw their was clearly something wrong with a plug hanging where it should not be.
